Default Cobra Build Update-Dyno Run

Well yesterday we finished up a bunch of stuff, aligned the car and then put it on the dyno. First run was 496HP and then we discovered throttle was only opening about 80% so fixed that. Bumped the timing up a bit more and it ran 523HP on this run following. Air/fuel at about 12.4 so still a bit rich and humidity was 35% late yesterday afternoon here in Dallas so probably has a lot more on a better day and leaner but leaving it here for now. Enjoy!!!

That's a sweet ride you have there Gary. 523 at the wheels....cool. Humidity sounds good at 35% for a good pull.

I was there for the first pull and all I can say is AWESOME. The car is absolutely one of the nicest cobras I have ever seen. The sound of that big block is just incredible.

What A/F are you shooting for? 12.4 is pretty good for a NA motor and so are
the rwhp numbers! Looks great as well!

Great looking car Gary! I wouldn't have expected anything less from you. Are you bringing it to Tulsa next June for the Shelby meet?

Actually wanted Air/Fuel to be a notch higher as when it went over 6,000 it went pretty rich falling to 12 and a bit below...Rob leaned it out a bit this am and ran it again and pretty consisent 13 across the band and it made 530 HP. Very warm and high humidity today but when we brought it home it sounded pretty good. Probably go back have way.

Plan to be Tulsa in 2011...

Gary,

That is a very nice example of what a Cobra 427SC should be!

Gary, your car is really done right, congratulations.

However, I have a question about the power figures. Your description says the motor made 681HP which at 1.38 HP/CI is very do-able.

I understand that the chassis dyno figures were compromised by the A/F ratio and the weather conditions. Assuming the car might make an additional 30 WHP (not sure about doing that) and assuming the 681 figure is accurate-that would mean you currently have a 22% drive train loss OR the motor is down 61HP in these conditions from it's dyno rating.

I have not seen such a loss ratio on a Cobra with IRS-my own is close to 17%. It follows that if 17% is accurate for you, your car will make 565WHP with the correct tune and decent weather. I'm uncertain if the weather and jetting will account for a 61 HP improvement.

Any thoughts?

Don't forget sidepipes, accessory drives, etc. as variants from the engine dyno numbers.

My 17% figure included all that-I drove in and put it on the rollers.
