The Wood Bros. win was great. Finally someone other than one of the big dollar teams.

Recap of the past 500 TV ratings:

" The trend for NASCAR’s Daytona 500 TV ratings had been positive since the early 90′s, but the past several years have seen a downward reversal to that trend. At 13.3 million average viewers, the significantly delayed (because of track problems) 2010 race had the lowest average viewership since 2000. With no delays, this year’s race is likely to have an increased viewership, but by how much? "

Whatever method is used, from a driver and spectator safety viewpoint, the max speed will be limited to the 195-200 mph range, cannot risk a car going into the fence and probability of debris going into the stadium

I couldn't agree more about the Woods Brothers and how glad I was to see them win with Trevor. I am not a big fan of the two car hook ups. I wish they would take a truely stock car and put in the proper cages and actually use the engines that are available at the dealership including FI and superchargers. Let the manufacturers determine how slick their cars are. The addition of front and rear spoilers could be worked out too.

Just think of how much money could be saved by using factory panels instead of pounding out a nascar version?

Agree 100%. Modern NASCAR racing is almost like WWE wrestling now.

I'm happy for Trevor Bayne, Ford, and the Woods brothers, but the super speedway NASCAR product is boring for the fans.

Rumor has it that Hendrick and Childress have standing offers out to Stevie Wonder, Jose Feliciano and Andre Bocelli for Talladega................

Hi Mark IV,
Sounds like what Harley Davidson did in the 70's and 80's for pro motorcycle racing. Weed out anybody faster than you. Racing politics. 209

What would it take for a bunch of the "Young Guns" to break away from NASCAR and do an "Outlaw" type of stock car "Run What You Brung" race? When USAC pushed too many rules on the midget guys, they broke away and formed the World of Outlaw Sprint cars? Anybody seen a USAC race on SPEED lately?

I could see Stewart leading the pack!

" Trevor Bayne learned to run Daytona from a video game "

" As time marches on, we'll see more and more athletes who honed their skills playing video games, whether it's golfers who familiarized themselves with video versions of courses or coaches who cut their teeth on Madden football. Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne is no different; he learned how to drive Daytona from playing iRacing. Thing is, he learned it just last year "

Question that M Waltrip is providing the instructions, but the outcome was not impacted

I ran a LOT of video laps for Infineon in preparation for SAAC-35. I ran various cars, using Gran Turismo with a steering wheel, shifter, brake and clutch setup. The first time I was on the REAL track, I felt right at home. And sure enough, the first time I spun out was the SAME corner I always had trouble with in the game. It turned out to be a very realistic learning tool indeed.

Amen to that!!! Those cars no longer resemble anything the fans can by at the store...

From the Ford Racing Newsletter:

" The Rebirth of Wood Brothers Racing: "

" Len and Eddie Wood sat with Kyle Petty recently on SPEEDtv to reflect on the remarkable comeback of Wood Brothers Racing that culminated in Trevor Bayne's Daytona 500 win. This video features Tiny Lund, AJ Foyt, and other winning drivers who have driven the famed 21 car of the Wood Brothers. Hear Len and Eddie tell the story of how a phone call from Edsel Ford turned around their fortunes and started their climb back to the top.

Also, you can see Trevor Bayne and the Wood Brothers at The Henry Ford Museum's Anderson Theater, Dearborn, MI, March 9th at 3:30 p.m. Be part of a Q&A session. It's free and seating is limited. "
