Default What do I need from the Seller?

Ok, so I may have found "the one" and have some questions. I am in the Dallas area and the car is out of state. The car is not titled yet so what do I need to get from the seller? I know I will need a bill of sale but what should come with the car from the manufacturer? I am assuming from prior threads that I will need this manufacterer information plus serial numbers etc and will need it to be safety inspected first. (with the green sheet, now white)

Any help is appreciated, just dont want to forget something and regret it later!

Why has it not been titled yet ????
are you buying it from the manufacturer or a builder ????
was it built by a qualified builder or ????
MSO and all reciepts....if they dont have both then you
may want to reconsider your choice....

Depends upon the state but bill of sale and MSO for sure. Biggest concern is that it's not hot.

ask the tough questions of the seller...."Do you have the MSO and all of the reciepts???"
and why has it not been titled yet ???
only the seller can answer those questions.....
to get more info from us then tell us whos selling it and who built it...
we can only help if we know all the info on who did what with whome...

I asked him to email me everything he has so I can check on it. It's not been titled due to still needs the windsheild, interior and dash completed. Its a Factory Five that the seller and his father built.

The price he was asking is not what he is taking now... Not trying to be a smart a__ or tick anyone off but werent they all projects at one time? In order to get what I can afford I need to be able to take some of it on myself. I don't mind putting in some hard work

Default registration paperwork needed

In my state, you'll need either an MSO or a bill of sale for the car/kit itself, and a receipt for the major items in the driveline - engine, tranny, etc.

It will save you $$$ if the receipts show that sales tax has been paid. Otherwise, you'll be paying it again.

We no longer have to demonstrate the safety items - just sign a sheet that lists the code sections and a spot for the owner to certify that it meets all of them. That way, if you're killed in an accident due to a safety item, the state is not liable, since you stated in the form that it meets all requirements and the state never inspected it. Pretty slick, huh?

Iowa adopted the SEMA model language for Street Rods and Replicas. They are titled as replicas, and must meet the requirements of the year car they replicate. So a '32 Highboy is a 1932 Ford Street Rod, a Cobra is a 1965 Shelby Cobra Replica, etc.

It's really all about collecting the fees.........

90 minutes left in the auction and it is only at $26,300. That car is less than an hour from me. Not crazy about the color combination, but at THAT price, anything can be changed. Wish I could part with the cash.

*** Verification of VIN: Your state DMV should be able to search a National Data Base to determine if the VIN has been reported as a stolen vehicle.

*** Contact your DMV to obtain the specific requirements for inspecting and registering a kit car, either pre-owned or newly assembled. Most all states have different regulations. Generally, not the same as a production vehicle. Such as separate Bills of Sale for the vehicle, engine, transmission, i.e. major components.

*** Your states' emissions requirements/testing ?

Aedds

I bought a completed car with title from an out of state builder. He claimed he was an experienced builder and the car had won a trophy at a car show. I looked at the pictures, called and talked to someone that knew him and the car. Good report on both. We talked about me driving it 1100 miles home. I bought the car and had it transported to me.
Four months later (200 plus hours) and it's still not on the road. EVERY thing is wrong. The car was unsafe to drive. Two rims rubbing and the steering not centered. Shocks to short, 30 plus bolts to short, loose jam nuts and bolts on the suspension, tie rod loose stripped bolts, wiring problems, missing lug nut, throttle cable to short, timing off 15 to 20 degrees, may explain way it was backfiring and blowning out the intake at the same time, no timing marker, parking brake not adjusted, I had to remove the interior to adjust it, wrong t-stat, could not remove oil filter without removing low level plug in oil pan, pieces cut out of the edge of the valve covers, that one we have not figured out, on and on and on.
Bad paint!
He was in a hurry to finish and did not care how unsafe the car would be.
This car is getting a total rebuild because I can not trust anything that he installed.

GO look at the car or pass on it.

Thank you Dwight. This whole thread is really making me think that anyone can build a car but can they do it right? Hmmm...

So here's the other one I am looking at: 1988 NAF with 19,900 miles, 302, 5 speed, 3 spots touched up, no spider cracks or issues and built at the factory.

Hows this for a starter car....(and i'm not trying to be a smart azz)....
buy a FFr kit and go from there or B&B,Lone Star,, Shell Valley,Hurricane.....
yes they all start as a project but it can be your project and not someone
elses....if your willing to spend 25k for a project then you can get a long ways
on 25k and a kit from one of the mentioned manufacturers....

I bought a partically built FFR car. I purchased it some someone in SC. I inspected the car before any cash switched hands. The car wsa only in a roller stage so still had lots of work to do.
I still do not have mine reg. but i got a bill of sale, MSO, and a stack of reciepts.

Everone is saying to check the vin with the DMV. But the car has not been titled and it has no VIN, so I am curious how people want you to do that. It only has a seriel number stamped on the frame under the steering column. Atleast thats where it is on the ffr coupe.
