Default Thieves...simply amazing

Photo and two line story in the Dallas Morning News,,,"at least 30 cars and trucks were up on blocks at Heritage Buick GMC in Rockwall on Sunday after being stripped of their wheels overnight".

Think of all the things that went into this! The time required, the tools, the number of blocks, how the tires and wheels were carried off, the number of crooks, the balls it took..all of this at a fully lit dealership on interstate 30.

It just staggers my imagination A logistical masterpiece for sure.

Daughter experienced the same thing last month on her quiet and cop lined street!! Three deputies and or city cops live 3 ,4 and 6 houses up and down the street. I guess they were after OEM 20" GM wheels. 209

Crimes like this might explain why the brand new Toyota dealership a few miles down the street has their car display lot with only one point of ingress/egress with a railroad style crossing barricade, and a rolling fence gate that closes behind it, that is key operated by dealership personnel. And I live in the safest city (with over 100K people) in NC, and the 6th safest in the US.

What the heck have we come to??

Surely they had video cameras. That would be something to watch. It was probably Jeff Gordon's pit crew practicing.

Funny you'd say that. It was a Hendrick dealership that put up all the security measures that I mentioned in my previous post.

Maybe it was just part of the new "wealth re-distribution Plan", like new wheels for meals on wheels, or maybe a new business at the local swap meet.
Ya got to admit, these guys were good.

So 120 OEM GMC rims are worth how much on the black market? Not so much Now the tires .. brand new factory take offs Retail maybe $150 each .. hard days work, on the way to Mexico ... Adios!

Of course the rims will be $400 each and the tires $200 each to the insurance co. Almost as wasteful as the basturds who steal copper A/C coils from churches.

Edit: the 10 pm news on Ch 5 reported that they were dealer installed custom wheels ... so there's some bargains out there for you 2005+ GM truck owners

A while back, they were doing a similar thing around these parts, crawling under trucks at dealers and cutting off the cat converters!!!!!!!!!
Some are worth $250.00+ as scrap, much less new......
They did finally catch one guy at 2 in the morning at a Dodge delaership under a truck cutting off the converters with a hacksaw...when they got him, he was on truck #7!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work for a cast iron foundry. A couple years ago scrap started going up in price. We sell street drainage grates. Since the rise in scrap prices, we get calls everyday for replacements. The city of Long Beach had a whole rash of manhole covers stolen in one night. You can imagine the panic call we received.

That is beginning to be a common thing around here and especially in parking lots during the day time. People just think they are working on their own cars as they have a problem and don't pay any attention to them. One guy in a near by town had his new Cobra that wasn't even painted yet stolen right out of the parking lot while he went in and looked for something he needed. The police found several people that noticed the car but thought because they were putting it on a roll back in the middle of the lot in daytime the car had a problem and they couldn't even tell the police how many people were loading it. Also it was the first time he had driven it. And some have even called lock smiths that never asked for any identification and they would open the car for them.

I once stopped on the side of the road to look at a map for directions. A van pulled up behind me and about fifteen guys jumped out. Four of them had blocks, four had air hoses and impacts they plugged into outlets on the front bumper and two were wearing bright yellow shirts directing traffic.

They were there to steal the tires and wheels off my truck. When I realized what was going on I put the truck in gear and took off. I guess they thought it was broke down and no one was in it.

They knew what they were doing and had the tools and experience to get the job done very quickly.
