Looking to buy Cobra Replica
I'm thinking about purchasing a LoneStar Classic LS427 Cobra replica which was assembled in 2007. It has a 302 fuel injected engine and was registered in Texas. The photos I have seen show the registration and safety inspection to be expired.
How difficult will it be to get the cars registration and safety inspection current in Texas again? It will still be registered in Texas, just a different county where it was last registered.

Based upon what I have read and experienced, registering a car that was previously registered in TX will be no big deal. Same with the inspection.
How is the car currently titled? What state?
Is it just an expired TX registration and inspection?

As a starting point, check the CC Registration Forum:
Registration Forum - Club Cobra
Another step would be checking your states DMV site, using search terms such as replica, kit cars, custom made, etc

Both Texas registration and Texas inspection are expired because the car was not being driven. It was garage stored. I talked with the owner and the car is registered as 2007 but has a exemption to be inspected as a 1966 Ford. Getting both renewed should not be problem after talking with the owner.

If it's no problem, then why not let the current owner renew both prior to your buying the car?

He let the insurace lapse in 2011 and he can't get the car inspected without getting it insured. I have asked him to get it inspected so we can go to the DMV and complete all the paperwork for the sale of the car and get a new registration in my name.
Waiting to hear if he will do it.

If the car was titled and registered before do Not go to the DMV. Go to the county tax office. Fill out a title form, show them a copy of your insurance cover card and pay the sales tax. You are making this way to hard.

I said DMV, but really meant to say the county tax office were we get our car, truck, cycle, boat, etc license plates here in Texas. The car was titled and registered here in Texas, but the owner let everything lapse after he lost interest in the car.
Since I plan on driving it 400 miles back home after buying it, if it passed the state inspection I would have a warm fuzzy feeling about getting it home without any problems.

If it's been sitting that long, I might not have a warm fuzzy feeling about the gas in the tank, lines, injectors, etc. Perhaps a thick gummy feeling instead. At a minimum it needs a flush and a demonstration that it runs flawlessly.

He said he drives it periodically and that it runs fine. Hopefully a test driver will indicate if there are any problems with the car before I set our on a 400 mile drive back home

There's always somebody who feels the need to post a reply like "Use the search" instead of a helpful response. It didn't bother me. I did try a search, but didn't see anything that fit my exact situation, so I thought I'd ask.
The owner did get the car inspected today with no issues and he's ready to go his local courthouse to do the title transfer paperwork on Friday. Then I'll have a vehicle with current inspection and registration for the drive back home. Then it will be a little 7 hour drive in 100 + temps to get back home. I better pack the sunscreen.

to being a crusty old bastard who's been on this site since its beginning and a guy that has owned 20 cobras, a gt40 and a Dayton a coupe. And also believes in research first. This type of thread has repeatedly discussed and there are plenty of search answers to it.

Well said Jay.....and if DAfuser has ANY problems, call Brain, the owner of Lone Star. Brian handles registration and inspection for all new Lone Stars. That's correct....an owner that helps his customers.
