2 post lift recommendations
All,
I am in the process of building a new garage to work on the cobra and other projects with a lot more ease... as working under jack stands is just torture to me...and technically there is a house attached to the garage but...it is not really important Maybe I will finally get the JBL track ready.
Any recommendations out there? I think Jay has a few 2 post lifts in his shop if I recall.
Seems there is a place in Austin that has a show room and was looking at this
Atlas® OH-10X Overhead 2 Post Lift (EXTRA WIDE/EXTRA TALL)
Anyone purchased a lift from them and positive or negative experiences??
Seems there are lifts in the 2.5k range, 5k and 10k... trying to avoid the top 2
Thanks

Chris,
This is what I have and I am very happy with it. I didn't buy it from these guys. I bought it from a friend in Lockhart. I have used it for everything from the Cobra to my F-150. I usually have either my Cobra or my wife's 67 Mustang on it and the other parked under it. It is pretty tall so your shop has to be tall. If you are down at the Meet, my place is 30 minutes north. You are welcome to take a look. I'll be at the meet Wed. thru Saturday. My daughter will be at the registration table. Have her call me and we can hook up.

Chris,
I know you are looking at two post, but most of DFW has gone with 4-posts from Derek Weaver Direct Lift. Last time I looked, thay were selling for less than a dollar a pound including freight. You cant even get raw steel that cheap. TIT put Steve's together in a morning. Derek also sells 2-post and has a warehouse in Ft Worth.

Direct Lift 4 post
I think I chose the 4 post because the 2 post needed more width than I had to work with in this single stall. Another thing to check is ceiling height. I have 10'3", but I had to have the 7' garage door replaced with a 9' door so it would make the turn along the higher door track. The track is about 12" from the ceiling. The photo below shows how it looks. Later, I figured out if I back the Cobra in, I can position it so the door motor drops behind the windshield. I get another 6" of lift that way.

When I built my new shop, I looked at both 2 post and 4 post lifts. I went with the 4 and I am glad I did. Mine has the air over hydraulic jacks that slide inside the rails. I'm too old and fat to get on the ground to align the lift arms.

Chris,
I've purchased three different lifts from them. The first was a 4 post Pro Park 7000. It worked well for storage (stacking) and was OK (not great) for servicing cars. Then I moved and due to garage height limitations, I bought a mid rise scissor lift. It was better than a creeper and jack stands.
My current house has 11' ceilings so I finally got a 2 post base plate lift from GSE. It's a BP8000 and is the best of all 3 for servicing vehicles.
I picked up each of these and installed them myself. The 2 & 4 post lifts required a buddy and my cherry picker, but were done in a day. Plan on buying a 5 gallon jug of hydraulic fluid as the lift does not include it. The 4 post plugged into the 110v wall outlet. The 2 post required a dedicated 220v, single phase, 30 amp circuit. I was able to get the romex and breaker at Lowes and wire it up on a Saturday morning, no biggie.
So, would I recommend them? Yes.
HTH,
Will

guys thanks... this is good stuff. I will take a look at the one from John...local is nice as delivery is a PITA as they are heavy. I am trying to make it down to the annual even and will take you up on looking at yours steve
The Garage (or maybe shop is a better reference) has a very high ceiling so I don't think I will have any problems with that...15' I found 2 posts are easier to work on vs the 4 post. I might get a 4 post for storage later.
I got another recommendation for a BendPack BendPak XPR-10A-168 Two Post Lift, 10,000 Lb. Capacity, Asymmetric, Clearfloor Anyone seen these?
Thanks

I'm moving too, have to build a shop also. I'm taking the 4 post with me, see you have tried them both, i haven't done the 2 post but i sure like the 4, especially for blocking the chassis with a bridge and doing all the suspension adjustments.
Things you might consider with the lift, I acquired a hydraulic tranny lift in the deal which is nice for pushing and holding the rear pumpkin in place, drip trays, and rollers that go under the posts so I can move the lift around. Also some heavy steal bridges that slide along the runways on nylon sliders. Oh, and also an oil drain bucket on wheels like they use in the pro garage setups. A guy can't have too many toys.
If you do the 4, get long ramps, the entry onto the runway can conflict with the chassis.
Good luck.

I've had two 2-post lifts. The first was a Direct Lift HR8000 and was in my previous garage. I had a 10' ceiling and the lift fit with a few inches to spare. As a result, it had the cables and hose running under a plate which sticks up above the floor and runs between the posts. That was a bit of a pain but the lift was so nice to have, I didn't really mind.
New house has a 12'-4" ceiling so I bought an Atlas 9OHSC Atlas 9OHSC-SS Light Commercial Grade Two Post Lift | Atlas Automotive Equipment
No plate on the floor with this one. Interestingly, it doesn't really lift much higher than the other one.
I like the access you get to the bottom of the car and the wheels with a 2-post, but I have to admit, I've never had a 4 post.
A couple comments/tips about 2-post lifts:
- almost always need more ceiling height
- require a lot of width - they basically turn a 2 car bay into a 1 car bay
- Need solid concrete at least 4" thick. I drilled test holes to make sure my slab was thick enough
Hope that helps
