Hey everyone,
This is an update for the Texas Cobra Club 2014 Spring Meet.
Texas Cobra Meet This is year is shaping up to be one of the largest gathering of Cobras, GT-40s, and Daytona not only in the state of Texas but in the United States. We have cars and drivers from over 20 states and 3 different countries.
As of Thursday, February, 27th we have:
110 Car registered
204 Drivers and Guest
157 Folks attending the Saturday Night Banquet
83 Cars registered for the Gumball Rally/Scavenger Hunt
Here is a run-down of the daily activities:
Monday, March 24 thru Wednesday, March 26th:
Many folks will be arriving early to enjoy the Texas Spring Weather, the fields of Blue Bonnets and wild flowers, and tons of Texas BBQ. There are no organized plans Monday thru Wednesday, but I imagine there will be plenty of things to occupy your time.
Thursday, March 27th:
Most the attendees arrive on Thursday. The parking lot will be filled the Cobras, Trucks, and Trailers. The Superformance Owners Association is hosting a “Welcoming Party” somewhere in the parking lot. “Time? Starting at NOON of course! On Thursday till we run out of time, ice or consciousness,” per Randall Thomas of the SCOF.
Friday, March 28th:
Depending on the severity of the hangovers, many folks will be venturing out into the Texas Hill Country before lunch. Places like Frederickburg, Lukenbach, Willow City, and River Road are always favorites.
For those of you that want to test your driving skills, we are hosting a track day at Harris Hill Raceway in San Marcos.
Friday night, Finishline Accessories and the local Cystic Fibrosis Chapter are hosting a tailgate party with burgers, hotdogs, and sodas. BYOB if you want something else.
Saturday, March, 29th:
The Gumball Rally/Scavenger Hunt will take place starting at 8:30am. There are more details posted on the website about this event. It is a combination team road rally, poker run, and scavenger hunt. All proceeds will be going to Cystic Fibrosis. A BBQ lunch will be served at the Hershal Byrd’s Crooked Oak Ranch and Filling Station around noon.
Our annual dinner banquet will start at 6:30pm at the Embassy Suites. Cash bar will open at 6pm.
With the good come a few UN-pleasantries:
Parking at the Embassy Suites will be at a premium. We are planning on having more trailers this year than in the past. For those of you arriving before Wednesday, you may be asked to move or relocate your rigs to accommodate more space later in the week. The hotel has been very gracious in giving us everything we have ever asked, so keep that in mind if you are asking to move your rig. We cannot afford to piss-off the hotel. This is convention center hotel and they will have other guests and meetings at the same time we are there. I am not anticipating a problem but it may come down to some folks not having full access to the trailers at night. Please bring a car cover just in case we are not able to accommodate using our trailers as overnight garages. Of course if there is bad weather, we will make sure you can protect your car. There will be armed off-duty deputy sheriffs on-site Thursday through Saturday.
I am looking forward to seeing y’all in a few days. Safe travels.
Thanks
Ken Walker
