Default Paint and body

Looking for someone in the DFW area, preferably North DFW area, that does good paint and body work. I'm finally ready to get my cobra painted but the couple I have talked to either wanted 15-20k or have never done a cobra before.

Thanks
Brad

Check out Wade's Rod and Custom in Wylie.... He has painted a few Cobras including mine. Wade stands behind his work.

My only advice is not to get too picky. Find someone who knows some glass work & have them lay down some paint. The most unfortunate thing i've seen in group outings is when someone is fretting because there might be something in the road that could damage the finish on their funmobile. To add to that, most original cars have recognizable finish flaws. Paint the damn thing & enjoy the crap out of it!

Thanks for the advice!! I'm trying to find someone that won't charge me 15-20k but knows how to work the fiberglass. I will be going into the hospital in mid Feb and will be out of commission for about 2 months, so hoping to get it to a painter before then so when I get back on my feet, I can start getting it all put back together for spring and the as you say... Enjoy the crap out of it!!!

Hope it's nothing serious?
I don't know if it's the same in TX as it was in CA but, we had a lot of small shops that did upholstery & paint for pretty reasonable prices. I did my own body & paint because I was looking for a rough/raced look. My lack of experience ensured that . I did put a lot of time into the body work. I didn't want the car to look home brewed. Turned out just about how I had hoped. Of course, when you do it yourself, you always think you could have done better.... But, the body is straight! That's all beside the point. When you drive it, it's going to end up with chips & flaws.
are there any automotive schools in your area? Maybe they have a paint/body class & need a fiberglass project? Just throwing out ideas. Supplies only cost a few hundred bucks. Most of the labor will be in bodywork/prep

They did a great job on the car!
The last time that I saw your car, it looked like it got hit by a Sidewinder Missle! Lol
Now it looks like the car just came off of the Showroom Floor

Erik Chovanetz at Mastercraft Bodyworks in Red Oak. They have done many, many fiberglas cobras and daytona coupes, for several members of DFW chapter of TCC. They have also restored original aluminum cobras. Erik will be painting mine.

Wanted to give everyone an update on what I have found. After talking to about 2 dozen shops, and all of them with the exception of one was giving me prices of around 20k. The one that was less said 10k but that he had never done a fiberglass cobra. So I did some more research and stepped out of Texas to look around and spoke with Jeff Miller "Da Bat" in California. I'm super happy to say that my car will be shipped to CA in a few weeks and have an amazing paint job done by Da Bat!!! Cant wait to see the amazing work he does. Thanks again for all the info and insight from you all.

Here are a few pictures right after clear was applied. The main body color is Iridium Metallic but changes with different lighting and angles. Stripes are Porsche Carmon Red Metallic. Headed out to to San Diego to see if finished on July 10th, then will have it shipped back and begin the re-assembly process!!! Thanks again to Jeff Miller!!!

Before you jump out of Texas.. You might try John McHenry in McDade Tx. He did My car and the two cars that are now in France. He and his sons do great work... Not sure on what he charges now but just outside of Austin is much better that CA.

Mine is currently being painted by a shop in Irving. Give me a call for the story as they might fit your needs... Larry 817-980-2135

Can I suggest another way of approaching this?
When I was looking around for somebody to paint my car, everyone I spoke to gave me sky-high figures, and it was suggested by AP that the painters added "quite significant" margins in their quotes to cover any contingencies. If they didn't strike problems, then they were way ahead with their profit.
What if you ask the painters (those you know will give you the quality you want) what their hourly rate is, and if they will do the job based on cost of materials and hours worked? That can work out very well for you, and the quick turnaround for your paint job might amaze you.

Cheers,
Glen
