May 25,02 Focus Day @ MotorSport Ranch
O.K. Texas Cobra Club members,
Let's see some of you guys step up to the plate! I have a tentative schedule date at MotorSport Ranch for a focus day for us
to learn how to REALLY drive(control) our cars at speed in a controlled environment on an absolutely first rate 1.7 mile PRIVATE road course in Cresson, Texas. For those of you in SCAT and the Dallas Chapter, you are probably weary of listening to me talk about this, but here is the deal as it now exists.
1. We need a minimum of 20 CARS, with a maximum of 32.
2. The cost is $95/car.
3. We will all congregate at the track between 2:00pm & 3:00pm.
4. We will have private instruction from their professional driving instructors about the way the track is set up, the way to read the cones, the proper line through all the turns, entrance, apex, and exit. We will then follow a pace car around the track, and learn the correct line and how/when to brake and accelerate. Then more classroom instruction, and when the track closes at 5:00pm, we will be broken down into small groups & allowed out for open track sessions of approximately 20-30 minutes in length, with two sessions/car.
I am in, and I need to know who else will join me...I need firm commitments please, so come on down!!
John Russell
SPF#586
ps. Cresson is just South of Ft. Worth.

I've got 7 with 2 possibles so far!!
O.K. fellow club members,
So far, it appears I have seven confirmed with 2 possibles from John Ross. I need 20 confirmed that are ready to "put up @$95 ea" to secure the date. Please understand that I am NOT asking for your $$ now, but I AM asking for a firm commitment from our members posted here on our website. Please understand that we/I will soon be asked if we are ready to secure this date , and to do that I really need more of my fellow members (between 11 and 13) to step up to the plate here. If we get close I will cover the shortage personally for the good of this club, but at this point..........well, procrastination from the fence sitters out there will result in turning the date back and certainly give our club a rather poor image at MotorSport ranch, and the chance to put together this kind of event for our club there certainly will not be good.
Please... if you are thinking of coming &/or not coming, let us/me hear from you. I really would like to pull this off, but I REALLY need a bit more help here!
Thanks,
John Russell
ps. I had between 4-8 mention they want to come at our February meeting 2/2/02, but PLEASE post here so I know who I can count on.

John,
Its just something to consider. I probably won't get the most fun out of the car 2 weeks before Tulsa....I may not even have it together come to think of it. I just don't want to break anything.....could we schedule it for a different weekend than that?

John,
I think I can get two or three more participant from here in Austin. I'll report back after our meeting on Saturday.

Thanks for the responses to all.
Thanks to you all,
Jeff, I had you in as #6 & Stretch as #8. Matt, you are #3 and we really can't change the date at this point in time. Motorsports Ranch is a business that is willing to accommodate our club on the few open dates they had WHEN I first spoke with them. I had first choice at that time and this was the best day I could come up with. There would be absolutely NO reason to break your car unless you do something incredibly foolish, but we hope to all learn how to drive our cars correctly, which is not always an easy thing to do. I plan to run this event, and will be in Tulsa also. Matt, are you in or out? I really don't think we will have a problem filling this event, and I actually anticipate having to turn members away, but I WILL run this as a first come- first served event, and if we get to the maximum number, then we will only open it up if someone cancels and that space will be filled by the next person that posts.
Let's get off the fence & sign up..........AND DO THIS!!
John Russell

Sounds great!!!
I would come if anyone in Austin knows where I can rent or borrow a car trailer. I would then be able to make a solid commitment. (I rarely use the "c" word). I'll ask around and get back to you.

Joe,
Ask Bill Dollohite if you can rent his open trailer. He has used it once and I know he probably would rent it for the $. I might have room in my trailer, but not sure. I'll talk with you this weekend.
