DFW ASE master mechanic needed
Trying to get the SLC on the road and need an ASE certified master mechanic to inspect it to meet the TxDOT requirements
My go-to Firestone shop in Plano no longer has the guy I've always used.
Anyone know someone who has all the current certs?

Typically New Car Dealerships have a few working there. It doesn't take too long to gather the certs. You may try the local Ford dealers.

I think almost all the Firestone shops have at least one on their staff. I used a Firestone shop in Keller when I did my Cobra.

ok, the Firestone at Rosemead and Josey in Carrollton says they have a guy. We shall see tomorrow.
Bob, that's pretty far for you though.

I have copies of all his certs, which he gave to me. Why won’t he give them to you?

Chris, it sounds like there were two guys with the certifications, and the guy you used isn't there anymore. The mechanic I talked to said he had never done a cobra inspection.

Success.
the mechanic at Firestone at Rosemead & Josey in Carrollton has all the current certs and inspected the car this morning. One step closer to title.

Sweet! I have to transfer title from Colorado and I'm in Southlake. I've been reading up on the exciting and thrilling process of doing so and I am counting down the 60 days I have left to do that per Texas rules.
Oh Joy!

I'm fairly sure you have to go thru all this only when getting a title the first time after assembly.

True for new builds, John. And for an out-of-state title coming in you do this if you intend to title as an "Assembled Vehicle - ASVE". Like if his out-of-state title is an ASVE type (component build), year built replica title. You end up with a "Custom Vehicle" plate. Complex process, must read the Assembled Vehicle Manual first.
If he's coming in with a vintage year title, then he can go the vintage route or the ASVE route as he chooses. For instance, a 1965 title year will get you a regular plate, and annual safety-only inspections will be required. Get a regular state inspection first, then do a simple title application. No limitations on operating the car. Or you can choose to get an "Antique Vehicle" plate and 5 yr inspections, accepting the "limitations" that go with an antique registration.
The reason why someone might want to go ASVE has to do with the fact that you only ever need the one ASE inspection for as long as you own the car in TX. Downside is the title will show year built, make: ASVE, and "Replica 1965 Ford" which is not always what future buyers prefer.
Of course ymmv, this always is subject to variations in job knowledge at the title desk, and whether the applicant has done their homework ...
Sam

Loudon Motor Car Services can do it. I used them when I changed my title from Ohio. They'll print a copy of the mechanics certs. to go with your inspection form which is what you'll need. They're at 11454 Reeder Rd. off 35E and Royal Ln. Unfortunately they specialize in German cars so they're no good for anything else on your car.
