Actually, my wife, Nell suggested (although they don't have the best food) "The Oasis". Great view anyway and a good starting point for a little drive. I do have 2 other ideas but I'm trying to work out the details.

In fact, I need to know how many people for one of these (roughly) I figured 25-30????

How much do you all want to spend? I'd really like to do something nice (pricey) and something a bit more free-wheeling and fun the next.

Thoughts?????

I also have reserved the San Jacinto Ballroom at the Four Seasons Hotel for a lunch buffet. I have numerous menus to choose from, reserved parking (easy in and out) and all that for about $30/person if you guys would like to do something a bit more upscale? If you've never eaten there you don't know what you are missing! Go to dinner there some time and really get wow'd ! Since I used to work there they are giving us the room for free ($100 savings) and we can meet from 11:00am-1:00pm? I have 7 different menus for buffet that I can have set up from potato salad and sandwiches to Caesar Salads, with soup....etc... As I said, it is a bit pricey for most people but, then again, we are the Texas Cobra Club...and aren't we worth it?

Let me know and I can post the menu.

Regards,

Talking Formal Attire Required

Wow; I never drove my FFR to a upscale restaurant before. Tuxes for the guys and evening gowns for the gals. We need a photo of this lunch gathering. Just kidding!

We all need to respond to Ren Man's proposal, not everyone can swing for $60+ lunch for two. We might not get a large lunch gathering if the prices are a bit pricey. (MHO)

Kathy and I are still in.

I'm in depending on 2 things. First, which weekend if I have rugrats to take care of. And two, I don't think I'm ready to spring for a $60 lunch. Call me cheap, but hey, if I'm gonna spend that much money for a meal, I'd rather it be a dinner with a fat juicy steak.

It's a classic "Deli" lunch Ed but a very nice place to have it. I'll copy and paste two of the menus here. No dressing up is necessary for the lunch. Just thought it would be something different. I need a minumum of 25 people.

I need to solidify this as soon as possible guys so give me your thoughts? Four Seasons is my pick as it is really nice and easy in, easy out and security on site.

My vote is along the lines of Jeff's on this one -- if I spring $30 for a meal, it should be dinner, and have some seafood involved.

The food at the Oasis is average, but their guacamole and margaritas are great. Also, its a good place for a Cobra gathering.

I may or may not make this month's event anyway, so count my vote as half only.

On a more important note though, I've noticed a distinct lack of emoticons in this post, so I'll add some...

Guess I wouldn't even consider the food at the Oasis, "average". I need more than guacamole and 'ritas for lunch. Most people spend more than this getting hammered at a bar on 6th street.

This really makes me wonder if we raise the annual event cost to $30 so that it can be catered, if people are going to back out? Come on girls, it's once a month!

We could meet there and just order off of the menu? This way the cheapo's can have a $15 meal... j/k

Ren,
I'm not trying to be cheap, just making sure I want to spend my money in the right place. First, I'm the type that can be easily satisfied with food. So spending over $70 for a couple to eat lunch is more like my idea of wasting rather than splurging. The Oasis has never had good food. But they have the atmosphere that many of us enjoy for a Saturday afternoon cruise. I don't care all that much for the Oasis, but have you ever tried the Iguana Grill? Same atmosphere overlooking Lake Travis and I will attest, the food and margaritas are fabulous.
My .02.
Your frugalness....

Lightbulb Food for Thought

I never been to the Iguana Grill, sounds interesting. Oasis is great for a view. Remember we packed them in at the County Line. We must have had 40 members and no Cobras. That was a Austin monthly meet record, maybe the rain had something to do with it.

I think alot of members like an informal setting, fellowship, good cheap food, a good place to park together, beer and/or margaritas, and a little time to cruise or convoy. (MHO)

Any other suggestions or thoughts Austin members, speak now before Ren Man nails it down. It would be nice to get 40 members on a sunny day, and see how many Cobras show up.

Default Lunch Idea

Hey Ren-Man,

I know this is from left field, but what about lunch at Volente Beach club at the intersection of Lime Creek and Volente Road? It's a fun ride and you overlook the lake.

Oasis sounds great, too. I like meeting somewhere outside, not in the basement parking garage of the 4 Seasons. I went there once, and got my truck locked in the garage by their security staff that decided to walk off while leaving the exit gate closed.

It's supposed to be 75 & sunny. Girls in shorts, or old ladies in slacks?

I don't care guys... Obviously nobody has been to the Four Seasons or you'd know they have meals for $8.95 and that they are on the lake and that they have an outdoor patio to eat on and a grassy knoll and a bar with balcony and the parking is on the main level not underground. I specifically had space set aside on the top lot for parking as too many car alarms would go off underground. The ramps are also too steep. I'm trying to do something different than going to Lake Travis all of the time.

Let me see what else I can come up with. SXSW is in town anyway.

Thumbs up Hang In There!

Ren Man; Kathy and I will be in New Orleans on a little vacation break. What ever you decide, we will attend. Hang in there, that's the fun of being the monthly coordinator for the Austin members. You try your best to satisfy everyone, but it finally comes down to your call.

In your other post you stated "I'm there if I still have my car." What did you mean?

Default Still Working on it...

Iguana Grill will not reserve parking unless in the back row with the employees. Another thing, it's dirt. I personally don't like the idea of parking my car in the dirt.

Watch this space....
