Default upgrade for my cobra Hauler

Ladies and gentlemen,
I am in need of some information or help. I need to get more uummph out of my cobra hauler and I am toying around with the idea of putting a Tuned Port Injection on my pick-up. It's a '92 Chevy. My question to ya'll, do you know of someone that has done this or someone that could give me some insight in accomplishing this.
Im striking out on the web, can you believe that?

I want to get this done for RUN & GUN this September...

Any info that you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

RATHER THAN GO THRU ALL THE TIME AND EFFORT AND MONEY TO DO THAT WITH MARGINAL HP IMPROVEMENT, I WOULD JUST PUT A SUPERCHARGER ON IT.

Talking BIG ED STRIKES AGAIN!!

PAUL,

I AGREE WITH COBRA ED.

I HAVE A 94 EXPEDITION WITH A 5.4 V-8, PULLING A 20 FOOT ENCLOSED TRAILER. IT REALLY LABORS ON SOME OF THE HILLS OF WESTERN VIRGINIA.

I'M IN THE PROCESS OF PUTTING A KENNE-BELL BLOWER IN MY EXCALIBUR COBRA AND IF THAT WORKS OUT AS WELL AS I EXPECT IT TO - - THE NEXT PROJECT WILL BE TO INSTALL A K-B ON THE EXPEDITION. IT SHOULD BE A PIECE OF CAKE TO INSTALL IT IN THE EXPEDITION - I'M GOING TO NEED A SHOE HORN, A NINE IRON, A GALLON OF K-Y JELLY, AND A VERY LARGE HAMMER TO GET IT INTO THE COBRA.

ALTERNATIVELY, I SUPPOSE, I COULD PUT THE EXPEDITION IN THE TRAILER AND PULL IT WITH THE COBRA. NAW - I THINK I'LL GO HAVE ANOTHER BEER,

Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

Talking

You could always put a "FORD" engine in your Chevy... hee hee

sorry, couldn't pass that up.

Seriously though...
I know a guy who just put a Supercharger on his 96 GMC and though he did not have it dynoed, he claims it to be the best $2800 he has ever spent. He tows horse trailers and is very pleased with the results.

Smile Lose the Spark Plugs

I would recommend going with a diesel. I have a Powerstroke F250 and a 6 speed. It'll pull anything you want just about as fast as you want. I know the Duramax (for all you Chevy guys) is a great engine, too. The good thing about the Powerstroke is it's easy and relatively cheap to add LOTS of HP and Torque. My truck runs about 325 hp and 600 ft-lbs and I've only chipped it!!! (about $400) Much more to come!! I drove a Chevy Gasser for years and liked it until I got the Ford.
With all the financing specials, etc that have been going on, the slightly used market is flooded with trucks. I think you could probably get a pretty good deal on a truck that's only a few years old.

Just my 2 cents..........

JACK, MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR JUST TRADED IN HIS 5.4 -230HP EXPEDITION FOR A 6.0 360HP CADILLAC ESCALADE. HE CLAIMS THE THE DIFFERENCE IN POWER IS NIGHT AND DAY (DUH, 130 ADDITIONAL HP). BOTH VEHICLES WEIGH THE SAME. SO ANYWAY, THIS IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT TOO.

Default Power Stroke ?

The Downside of a Power Stroke
I own a Mech shop and we have put several Fuel inj wire harness and injectors . The problem is they run the injector wires thru the valve cover gaskets and get oil soaked !Running this repair from $1500.00 to $5000.00.

Just Change the gears in the Rear end $500.00 spend the rest on the Cobra !

Thumbs up Power Stroke

I've owned two:

1997 with 130,000 miles

1999 with 95,000 miles

No such problem!

Point blank: Will a 2001 F150 SuperCrew (4 real doors) XLT with 5.4L Triton and towing package have a problem handling 22' Pace trailer and Cobra?

Bob,

If you do a search on the forum on "towing", you'll probably find a lot more info.

...to answer your question...yes, it should be adequate. I have a 5.4 Expedition and its ok. CSX4027 has an F150 with a 5.4, he added a K&N filter, Super Chip and FlowMaster exhaust. It tows a 20 ft trailer real good.

Just make sure you get the Load Leveler bars and a class 4 hitch and receiver.

Edelbrock makes a system to convert your throttlebody injection into a multiport fuel injection system. You still use the factory throttle body but block off the injector ports. It is a complete system and pretty well priced. Just check it out on their website and summit or jeg's probably has them in stock. Here is the link

Talking Swayze!

To all on here with trailers.........

I just got back from a trip to florida with a custom lowered 3500 series crew cab truck. (350, no duallies) I didn't have any problems pulling a 20ft enclosed v-nose trailer, but every time a semi passed, it pushed the trailer and started swaying like a dog! Anyone have any ideas? What is the purpose of a "Load leveler" if the trailer is loaded properly? Any insight would be appreciated.

Also, my trailer is 7.5ft tall, probably is not helping, Scott

I have had thre Powerstrokes and NO PROBLEMS at all the frst I put 130,000 miles the second I only put about 45,000 and trade for the Platinum edition. I have about 15,000 miles on it and it will pull what ever I need to pull with no problem. And if this thing gets to where I have to work on it, it will be HISTORY, it is that simple.

The first time I pulled my 24' Pace with my F250 I had a similar problem, with trailer sway, I simply pulled over at a truck stop and moved the car forward in the trailer about a foot and that solved the problem. I now know where to put the car each time I put it in the trailer.

Is this the first time you have pulled this trailer? Is this the first time you pulled this trailer with this car in it. Sometimes it just takes some tinkering and resetting to get it just right. Once you get it right look at where it sets in the trailer for next time. Easy problem to solve.

Smile Steve/killer......

I had the cobra in it and two GSXR's. Cobra in rear, and bikes in front. Trailer was evenly loaded, ie. it was flat front to back. We moved the car and bikes back and forth, seemed to make no difference......... The trailer is taller than standard by 1.5 ft, maybe that makes a difference, I dunno? Any other ideas? S

cscott67,

If there are no mechanical problems ferrari has probably got it right. You don't have enough nose weight.
I've towed everything from 17' foot boats tor 48' goose neck trailers.

In other words, towed a lot of things in the last few years with a lot of different vehicles. Always found if the butt end starts to swing and sway...to much weight in the back. 50/50 doesnt mean a proper ratio when it comes to towing.

Back to my corner.

Default Sway Control will help

I recently pulled (for the first time) my car trailer with my handicap cart loaded inside behind my car. I had the car pulled as far forward in the trailer as possible, but the extra 250 lbs. behind the car threw off the balance quite a bit. Putting my Sway Control device on (I tried with and without to test) made a significant improvement.

My trailer is an 18ft enclosed Wells Cargo, and I'm pulling it with a 5.0 litre AWD Mercury Mountaineer. It's not fast, but it gets me where I want to go.

Regards,

cobrajeff
