Default NOS legal?

Hey Texas folks...a little edumacation for me. A friend just told me that he's almost certain that NOS on the street...That is, driving on the street with NOS hooked up, ready to use...is illegal (in Texas)...'zat so? I figure with an emissions car, maybe, but not for all cars...?

Thumbs down

We had this NOS issue come up about a year ago, basically NOS is illegal in Texas. Alot of the cops will over look NOS in cars at the car shows. But, they can give you a ticket. I was told that the cops can take the NOS from your car.

Tony; your the expert on inspections, can you inspect car with NOS?

Talking NOS ?

Hmm that's is a good one need to look in to that ! I know if it is neatly done and all the emissions are there and if is being inspected within its original county Non emission city it should be ok for inspection just be sure that you have enough for me to try out .HA HA .But seriously Its like the green lights I installed under Neil's Cobra to match his stripes its ok to have but you cant run them on the street Legally . Right Cobra Dude ?

Default nos legality

I just had my SPF inspected at Alan's here in Austin. I asked about the legality of NOS and the owner said it's legal. he claimed it's not part of the inspection criteria at all.

I like Mustang's response, though: make sure there's enough NOS to give the inspector a ride....he'll pass you for sure....

Default NOS

First NOS is ok to have on your car. The illegal part comes from the time you hit the button (Exhibition of acceleration, racing, reckless driving, etc etc)

As a rule of thumb, only things that can be seen will be enforced. Tailpipe length, red reflector, windshield wiper, etc.

The NOS may become a inspection issue, however most of us only have a safety inspection so that would be a mute point anyway.

No cop (I know as I "is" one ) is going to pull out the 9/16 to remove your NOS injectors. Your friend is telling you another "woke up with my kidney gone" story.

Of course I do not include the wonderful people of the Texas Highway Patrol (otherwise known as the Texas Ticket Writer 2000!!!) as they seem to find anything to write you.

If you need to sleep one night, Look up section 545 in the Transportation Code, subchapter 1, Miscellaneous Rules, very interesting reading.

My neighbor is an Austin cop who frequents our Oakhill car meet on Saturday nights. He is the one who told me about NOS being illegal. Tickets are subjective to the cop at hand. He told me that if they see a NOS bottle, they can take them. Any way, this is his take on the NOS question, not mine.

GEE,

UP HERE IN THE "HEART OF THE CONFEDERACY" IT'S ONLY ILLEGAL IF IT'S CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO A FULL FACE MASK.

Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

PS: LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING SOME MORE OF YOU TEXAS DUDES AT DVSF. WE'LL NEED SOME EXTRA HELP HOLDING JAY'S NOSE WHILE WE POUR RAKI INTO HIM. IT REALLY IMPROVES HIS SURLY DISPOSITION. ACTUALLY - HOW MANY OF YOU ARE BRINGING NOS - JUST IN CASE WE RUN OUT OF RAKI ??

BE GOOD,

BJ

Thumbs up Great Suggestion!

BlackJack; I think you got something there. NOS with a full face mask. I could use that set up in my FFR. I have a bad back (three pinched disks and frequent pain) and I'm always looking for medical relief when driving my Cobra.
