Houston Meeting
We had a good meeting in Houston this evening. 6 Cobras, I think. Where were the rest ? Several folks had suggested evening meetings- we have one starting at 5:00- and just a few show up. What is the deal? I know a lot have other things to do, I just thought I would rattle a few cages. It was really a nice day for a drive! Later, David Shelton.

I DO NOT CONSIDER 5:00PM AN EVENING MEETING....IN FACT IT IS THE HEAT OF THE DAY....NOT WHEN ANY INTELLIGENT PERSON WOULD BE OUT IN AUGUST IN AN UN A/C CAR ....AN EVENING MEET WOULD BE NEAR DUSK EXTENDING INTO THE EVENING(AFTER DARK)...MANY DEGREES COOLER....SUSAN AND I HAVE FOUND THIS TIME TOLERABLE OR EARLY AM.....NEED TO ALSO WATCH TEXAN SCHEDULE FOR CONFLICTS.....MORGAN

Hey Everyone,
David beat me to reporting on the meeting but it was a good one. I have to agree with him, it was a great day for a drive!
Come on now Morgan, I think everyone there was quite "intelligent"! Well, maybe not old Bull Durham, but he's an Ag like me so it's ok
There is never going to be a time when we please everyone on meeting time, place or Temp so everybody come out when you can. It's not all about the cars, it's mainly about the people so if it's too hot or too cold or raining ect...come on out in the daily drivers and socialize. We have great people in this group so there is rarely a good reason (hurricanes, floods ect) for a bad turn out.
We all had a good time. Scott and I took a back road cruise (aprox 110 miles) starting around 2 and with the breeze and driving "around" 55mph, (yeah right) temp was not even a factor. I found out that Scott is a little speed demon. He made me use all 6 of my carbs just to keep up! Both of our cars seem to be running very well.
As for the meet, Whiskey Dicks is a large air conditioned place so the temp at 5 was not a factor there either. A bunch of Harleys showed up as well, so we got to scope out their bikes while they checked out our cars.
Although there were only 6 or 7 cars we had a good turn out because some people came in their daily drivers.
Rocket Man wasn't racing this weekend so he brought out the Drag Cobra. Man is that thing cool. I think the Houston club has the quickest cobra in Texas. Of course he only has a 3 gallon gas tank so in the end I think I can take him.
David once again was a trooper making the 200 mile round trip from Kountze and this time in his Cobra! First time I got to see it. Good Job David!
We decided on some standard meeting places that we will use to rotate the meetings. In the North (Joe's Crab Shack), South (Sundance Grill) and West (59 Diner & Captian's). We are still scouting for a location in the East. Next month we will be up North on the 2nd Saturday so put it on your schedule.
We also talked about cruises being planned by any and all club members...If you want to organize a cruise, just post it with meeting time and destination and go. I will still try to get a combo Austin/Houston or Dallas/Houston one together but other than that you guys bring it on.....let's ride.

Whiskey Dick's was a nice meeting place. As Dennis pointed out, it's hard for family's (it's a bar), but the location was good and the beer was cold. Nice to see everyone again and to check out the cars. I don't think the Harley guys have heard anything as loud (or louder) then their bikes until we fired up some of the cars. I had to leave early (6:30ish) so I know they heard at least one set of pipes. I'm sure they were impressed when Rocket Man fired up his ride. No joke folks, he runs consistent 8.20's in the quarter mile (wheelie bars, parachute and all!). Considering most Cobra's with traction and experienced drivers can tip into the 11's, an 8.20 is next to the speed of sound.
As for the Texas backroad tour that Dennis and I embarked on, we had quite a good time. While it may or may not be true that we saw the century mark a few times (in mph ), the only witnesses were few hundred cows and some dead bugs. Last I heard the cows won't turn us in. While Dennis complains about my short blast from 55 to 100, I too can recall a certain Aggie maroon / white cobra getting a little sideways leaving a light in Hempstead ).
We had a nice cruise back into town to meet up with the rest of the gang. I had my younger brother out with me this time in the Cobra and he commented how relaxing the cruise was. Very relaxing indeed, even at speed.
If anyone has any cruise ideas, I'll listen. I've already 3400 miles or so on SPF#1230 since early January, and they've all been fun. Of course, our baby is due Oct. 18th, so that might be a bad month! Maybe we can get another cruise set up before the next meet?
Still sunburned,
Scott, SPF#1230

Sorry, Morgan, but you don't have to yell. I wasn't trying to piss anybody off, I was just trying to tell all we had a good time, and I didn't even touch the beer. Have a good one, everyone. David.

No prob Morgan,
Just FYI, the most likely reason David (and I for that matter) thought you were yelling is that in "net talk" typing in all caps is considered yelling/being ticked off.
Texans schedule should not be a problem, pro teams play on Sunday most of the time. pre season and some of the later games are all we have to worry about. will keep an eye out for conflict.
Hope to see you next time.

I just found out about the caps a while back. We do need to generate a little activity from the Houston bunch somehow. I do look forward to the meetings and this forum is a way to keep in touch between. Anyone doing any changes or modifications to their Cobras? By the way, "Caps Arnold" sounds pretty cool! Later, David.
