Pro 5.0 shifter install
Almost done with my Pro 5.0 shifter install. After opening the UPS box today, I wondered if I should install it in the car or hang it on the wall as a piece of art. Wow, what a solid base and the shifting is incredibly firm. I have a Tremec TKO and after 3400 miles or so, I thought it was time for an upgrade.
The Pro 5.0 has adjustable stops which prevent possible internal trans damage on hard shifts. My stock assembly had a crude stop system, but there was just too much flex. The new shifter is advertised to shorten the throw of the shift, but I'm keeping the longer, original shifter for looks so I'm not sure how much the throw will be reduced.
Anyway, I'll have the install done tomorrow night. It's taken longer than I thought as I had to remove the trans tunnel to remove the old base. I did some practice shifts in it tonight and am I impressed.
Just thought I'd pass along a little testimonial for anyone considering the same swap.

Snacol - The website is www.pro-50.com. But, I wouldn't buy it from them directly. Check some Mustang magazines as a lot of parts guys carry these. Typically the price will range from $179-$189, just don't pay the $209 listed on Pro-5.0 website.
I'm going to finish the install tonight and let you know how it goes.

Scott,
I installed a Pro 5.0 on my TKO last winter. It seems to be indestructable, though fast shifts are a challenge due to the TKO's eminent "stiffness".
I few pointers I got directly from TTC(mfg's of the Tremec). The shifter stops are NOT needed for a TKO, it has internal stops to prevent over-shifting. You can remove the shifter mounted stops. They also recommend GM Synchromesh trans oil, available from any GM dealer.
Good luck with the install, and happy shifting!

The "throw" is shorter at the shifter base. I installed mine with the "stock" handle. The throw is shorter than the Tremec shifter base. Notice how much further the shifter ball is away from the carpet in 1st, 3rd & 5th?

Mike- The install is done, now if it would just stop raining!!!! After looking at it last night, the throw does seem shorter. The shifts all felt so solid.
Anyway, I'll get the car out this weekend and run it through the gears a bit. Always fun running the Cobra through the gears .

I had the car out today (the rain has finally stopped!) to try out my handiwork with the Pro 5.0. I must admit, my expectations have been met.
When I did this swap on my 2000 Mustang GT, the difference was night and day (T45 5-speed trans), so I had an idea of what to expect. On the TKO, the stock shifter base was ok, but not great. There was a little slop in it, and the shifting was not crisp. After the install, the slop is gone and the shifts are solid. I banged through the gears a bit this am, up to about 90 or so. While I wouldn't call the difference "night and day" like the Mustang, it's a meaningful improvement.
Was it worth the money and time (about 4 hours) to do it? I'd say yes.
I think I'll go out and put some more miles on #1230 tomorrow morning, if it doesn't rain!

Scott, Was It Good To Ya? I got mine out this afternoon and put about 110 miles on it and it sure was good to me! Later, David.
