Wink It was a day to remember for a lifetime!!

"INCREDIBLE"............ This is really the only way to describe this day, and I can guarantee you everyone that made the effort feels the same way! Yes, it rained on us on the drive over, but it was not bad, and we adjusted our speeds accordingly for the few times it a little heavy. Yes, I have a top and it worked well, but Rainx was my savior since my wiper switch gave up the ghost immediately. Quite a few cars made the drive open, not the least of which was an original 1965 289 Cobra roadster from San Francisco!! About 10 miles from Pittsburg the weather broke and the sky began to clear as we approached the town. WE were met py Police escort and were led to the meeting spot at the High School! WHOAH... about 80 ca rs+ were then led back into town thr ough EVERYONE living in the area lining the streets to our destination which was the town square. The Mayor of Pittsburg greeted us, and declared October 19th as Carroll Shelby day and presented him with an plaque, then our own Susan Morris took the stage and made a presentation to Shelby from our SCAT Club(Yes, he was there, & I have pictures!!).
After about an hour , we all headed out to his ranch for a wonderful BBQ. After we had eaten, Carroll announced that he would be available to those in attendance for signing- ANYTHING- that we wished, and I would guess he must have been there for close to TWO HOURS. We did present him with a TEXAS 289 poster that was signed by EVERYONE IN ATTENDANCE which really looked like it touched him deeply. This was indeed a magical day for Mary & I, for we both have his signature on our jackets and on my glove box door, and even the fact that we hit more rain on the return trip did nothing to dampen what was a DAY TO REMEMBER. John and Mary Russell
ps. we got home around 6:00pm, tired and happy!!

As one of those that got wet and more wet I can say I wouldn't have given up that day for anything. Driving through the streets with the town lined with people was wonderful.

Carroll was in great spirits and with us the whole time....great food great time great friends...the day doesn't get much better.

The ERA group including James Baldwin went topless...no major problems...I think I actually got the worst with the blown fuses from shorts but the duct tape held and I didn't get any water in the webers....what an experience.

my heart goes out to the guy and his wife that passed us on I-30 just east of Dallas after the Barbecue.
I was trailering the Shelby 350 drag car and it was POURING down rain when he passed us in his silver cobra.
He gave us a grin and a thumbs up and swooshed on by! It made me wish I was 17 again. What a thrill.
no hardtop for my cobra, only a ragtop for feb and march when we have snow.
let it rain
i posted a photo of the young couple on my cobra album "page'

That was Jeannie and I.

Actually it was not bad at all. As long as you were doing over 40mph, you really didn't get too wet.

Would not have missed it for the world!

Like the others have said, it was truly a great event. I was a little concerned about getting the car in the rain, but I'd do it again in a heart beat. But, unlike the ERA guys, I had a top. So, it was actually a very nice, dry, warm, comfortable ride

Thanks again to Susan Morris. The jackets turned out really nice.

I've got a few pics that I can post later this evening.

David
