Post 2003 TCC Spring Meet Chat

Lets keep this thread open for suggestions for our 2003 TCC Spring Meet stuff.

I checked out the Alpenhof Steak Haus on Hamilton Pool Road (FM3238), and talked to the owner.

Pro: He suggested a buffet for 200+ members (100 Cobras x 2). Price would be $15-$20 per person (meal + soft drinks and tea). Pay as you go on the beer, etc..

Con: Parking lot is small, pea gravel and dirt.

Suggestions: Let check out the Griss Mill next month and other options. The Salt Lick has a larger parking area but still dirt.

Remember we need to plan for 100 Cobras and 200+ members and friends.

Default Ed, scratch the gravel parking lots!!!!!!

Ed,
IMHO, scratch any place that does not have paved parking!! You have way too many great restaurants with more than ample parking to pick a place that has to park cars on gravel!

There is a great resturant on 2222 East of 360 with a very large paved parking, it's on the right just off 360. It has a large patio outback that overlooks a lake or creek or something, I can't think of the name of it .... duh.......

And there's always the dreaded Oasis , bad food , great drinks and well a great view of Hippy Hollow (and the guys that frequent that area)

Post Few Updates

During our Austin December Meet we talked about the poker run and places to eat. After our meet I drove to the Salt Lick to check out the parking. All dirt, so the Salt Lick is out.

-------------------

I cruised down to the Gristmill River Restaurant in New Braunfels, and the parking is satisfactory (no dirt, tar base & plenty of spaces). I believe Blake is going to talk to the Gristmill manager about the food service (pay as you go for 200 people).

http://www.hill-country-visitor.com/....asp?cityid=27

New Braunfels will require a long run from 360/2222/620/71/RR12 through Dripping Springs, Wimberly, San Marcos, then a parallel route along I35. This might take well over 1 hour, one way, to do. (My next question is how long of a poker run do we want to do?)

--------------------

RCS (Bob Schench) was going to check out the County Line on 2222 & 360, and report back on parking and food service. (We had our first meet there four years ago.)

RCS was also going to check out the old Austin airport and see if we could do some racing.

---------------------

Charmer last post:

"In fact for lunch, I'm going to talk to the city and see if we can rope off a huge section of the downtown Auditorium or Coliseum parking lot. We'll have our choice of a half a dozen restaurants right across the street. Simple, fun, and no deposit required! "

Any poker run or resturant feed back or suggestions? As soon as we get feedback, I'll plan the poker run route.

We received several hotel bids. Hopefully Charmer and Greg will make a recommendation.

Default RANCH ROAD 12

I know if we head through San Marcos. There is plenty of stops along the way for Fuel. I think Mr. Rubarb might need a KC-135 for his beast. But Ranch Road 12 has plenty of stops for fuel.

Guys,

At the Saturday meeting we discussed the County line BBQ at 360 and 2222. I just finished speaking to one of the managers and he thought that they would be able to accomadate everything that we are looking for, but he wanted me to check back with the general manager about having roped off parking. So I will call back tomorrow to be sure. Also for large groups, they offer $2 off the all you can eat lunch, which brings the price to $14.99.

For those of you not familiar with the County Line, they are right on the lake, just across 360 from the Origin Garage. They do have a large paved parking lot, which I know is an important requirement. You can see them online at www.countyline.com.

It sounds like this is a very viable option for lunch, if anyone can think of anything else I should ask tomorrow, please let me know. I will also check and see how long before the event we need in order to reserve, so that we have time to discuss all our options.

Default I believe we did this the first year!!

The County Line........
I think we had lunch there the first year when we formed the club! The setting was beautiful, food was great, and we all did the "all you can eat" to simplify matters and speed up the process. The parkng was fine for the 18-20 cars we had then and space would have held many more. The idea of a one item lunch is a fine idea as it cuts down kitchen time dramatically and eliminates "order mix-up". So far, the County line gets my vote, and the cost per person our first year was $20/ea, so the price is right.
Oh, the drive out as we all turned left out of the parking lot and NAILED IT created a wonderful wall of sound that I still remember.
County Line gets my vote for lunch!!!

Default County Line is fine But!

The County Line is a fine place too eat. However if we start the poker run from their or getting out of the parking lot can be a pain. Taking a left from the County Line Parking lot can be a time consuming manner.

I'm all in favor of the county line but we might need to stop traffice for a few minutes to get the cars off.

Just my .02 cents worth.

What happened to the parking lot that had all the different restaurants available. I remember County Line and didn't care for it too much. Where we sat the service was lousy and the there were no choices. Just ribs if I remember and the vegetables were no choices either. Wasn't too crazy about the ribs either BUT if that's where the majority wants I'll be there.
