Original Cobra?
I am new to this forum...so bare with me. Is there anyone in Texas who owns an original Cobra and wouldn't mind if my husband and I come take a look at it?

The 2002 President of SCAT (Shelby Cobra Assocation of Texas) has an original 289 Cobra, and drives it to meetings on nice sunny days. Go to www.scatracks.org for pics. If you are in the Dallas area you can come to our next monthly meeting which will be the third weekend in January. Check the web site for details.

There are a couple of original Cobra's in the SCAT group. Both of the cars are 289 street cars.
Just curious what you are trying to see? If you want a new CSX4000 model there is one over in Plano at a local place I am sure you can look at. New Shelby not original.

Bridgett, Ran across your post. The car in Crawford, Tx. Is in a waco garage and belongs to a Doc in town named Brett Bolte.
I drove the car last Sat. It is a CX- 4000 car made by Shelby American I belive in the early 90's so it is technically not an origional but a lot of fun to drive. It has an all alum. body and set up for the track.

Cobra in Texas
Bridgette, Hi. Yes, one of my companies owns CSX 4039 here in Waco. You can see several pics of it in the clubcobra SAI photo gallery. It was one of the very first 4000 series cars, before they were rubber stamped by Kirkham at the MiG fighter plant in Poland. The body was hand rolled by Bruce and Colin Kimmins at Kimmins Coachcraft in Arizona. Bob March (from Shelby American)told me that to do one like this now would be about a $40,000 add on to the price of a regular Aluminum bodied (by Kirkham) Shelby CSX 4000. The Kimmins brothers are the folks who re-body the CSX3000 series cars before they are put on the market for sale. Great pains were taken to make the car identical to Shelby's own CSX 3056. As such, it is about as close to a CSX 3000 427 s/c car as you can get this side of $450,000. You are quite welcome to come down (up?) to see it. Where are you located?

Yes - a major highjacking
Good Grief!! Yes, Bridgette, posts relative to original Cobras and replica Cobras often spin off in all directions. Hopefully you received some worthwhile advice. If you really want to look at some Cobra - try to make it to Austin - Feb 21/22 for the annual TCC event - your head will be spinning with Cobras to look at. I know of 3 Kirkham's in the state and hopefully one of them will show.
David - is your ERA finished? I heard there was a couple of new ERA's in the area, but did not know if your were driving or building. I will change your profile on the TCC membership roster to reflect the ERA. Tell us about color and engine. I exchanged e-mails a few months ago with someone about forming a Waco Cobra Club - are you part of that plan? If so let us know, the Dallas group will assist and I would be willing to drive down I-35 sometime for a breakfast/lunch. My wife's family is from Waco, so I know the town well.
Brette - you need to join TCC and come to Austin too. I would really like to see your car sometime. Let us know if you want to join our band of merry men!
Finally, Pidler - glad to hear from you - it has been a while. I thought that maybe a jack stand slipped & you were stuck under the car.

Well guys, everyone has their own opinions, But I have to agree with the point that Brett made about the beauty of something handcrafted. Thats why we are choosing to build...completely,from the ground up. Hand rolled aluminum and all. A big undertaking I know. But it is something we have to do.
Now...is there anyone out there who can take me some detailed frame pictures (Front Suspension as well) of a CSX car? We need some detail!! Any help on this??

Bridgett,
Cobra Restorers sells blueprints of the original 427 frame for $200. Would probably be better than pictures if you want to build an exact replica.

Yes, we bought those plans but there seems to be several flaws in them. I would still like some pictures.:

In fairness to Bridget (..and the TCC gang, who owns the "room")... I will split this thread into a new one in All Cobra Talk... "Originals and Replicas"
If you have come back to this thread to continue the spirited discussion....
Follow this to the new thread...

Ron- I didn't mean to piss you off like I did. Please accept my apology. I think the whole Cobra replica thing is a mess, and was created by greed, stupidity and selfishness many years before I could ever have afforded one. Anything made after 1968, and even ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC Cobras that Shelby put 428's in and passed them off as 427's is to varying degrees in the same boat. If Shelby had not been a huckster since day one, this would have not progressed as it has, to such a massive extent (40,000 Cobras worldwide). He was a great driver, creative car designer, and had low ethics. He had the right car, and screwed it up the first time when he started putting 428's in the cars and calling them 427's. He was making knock-off's of his own creation LONG BEFORE anybody else. Now, we have knock-offs of knock-offs that are in and of themselves- knockoffs. Can we at least agree on that?
