STEVE - -

I GATHER FROM YOUR POST THAT YOU ARE IN THE INSURANCE BUSINESS. AUTO INSURANCE ???

IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT AN INSURANCE CARRIER COULD BE INTICED INTO A GROUP UNDERWRITING WHERE ALL OF THE INSUREDS HAVE TAKEN A "HIGH PERFORMANCE" DRIVING COURSE AND AGREE - AS A CONDITION OF POLICY RENEWAL - TO TAKE AN ANNUAL REFRESHER COURSE ??? OTHER RESTRICTIONS MAY BE APPLICABLE AS WELL.

ALTERNATIVELY - - HOW DIFFICULT WOULD IT BE TO TO FORM A COLLECTIVE INSURANCE POOL AMONG OURSELVES ???

THANKS - AND - Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

Cranky,

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that I may have posted something that sounded as if I practice on the streets and it surely wasn't intended to be so if I did. As for the OLD FARTS, I was 62 the 23rd of this month and am the oldest in our group out here except one who is in his early 90s I think it is. I am fortunate that I live just about an hours drive from Thunderhill where they have several high performance driving schools and an advanced one several times a year. I would love to go through some of the other schools but distance is a problem for me. I really do very little driving on the streets or in the city with my Cobra as it is more fun to take trips up into the mountains around here and see the old gold mines and towns. We do have a lot of history and scenery around this area and it is to bad that some of the younger generation with their Cobras think they have to be in town burning rubber to be noticed. Take care and keep up the good work.

Ron

Blackjack,
Indeed, I am in the auto insurance business. As a matter of fact I am a fraud investigator for one of the large companies that writes classic car insurance.
I don't know if an insurance company could or would be enticed to offer lower rates for a select group who have all taken drivers' education type courses. I think it would be up to the particular underwriter, and as we have seen, underwriters can make some strange decisions. I would think they probably wouldn't, because they are still concerned about the risks involved with these cars. It couldn't hurt to try.

As for pooling together, it is practically impossible. Each state has its' own laws, so you'd have to write a policy for each state, have it approved by the Insurance Commission, show financial solvency, etc.... Believe me, I wish it were possible, but no such luck.

The best I could say is that it is up to us to make sure we drive our cars responsibly. I feel that if the number of claims is kept low, insurance companies will write policies for us.

Steve
