Default New To Board-Need Info Please

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this board. I'm in the market for a Cobra replica and doing some research. I'm not sold on the whole idea of a replica yet so I'm doing my due diligence. I was given a link to a thread (spreadsheet) on this board by Superformance that had comparison data for the various kits available. Can anyone point me in the direction?

man did you just miss a good time. You are in Austin I assume...you just missed our annual meeting where we have 70+ different cobra's.

THere is a great group of people down in Austin and they have alot of different cars in the area that you can see. A good kit could be just as good as a superformance.....take your time and ride in as many as you can.

Yup I'm in Austin. Darn, I know it, I just saw the posts for the Austin meeting. Can't believe I didn't see you guys around town. That would have been a perfect time for me to see some cars and get some info. I did see a really beautiful blue/white one driving 'round town about 3 weeks ago.

Just Joe on the site {Joe Garland}has a Unique 289 Cobra and is a Dealer for Uniiqui he is a great guy and has been in the Car buisness for many years .

I didn't get to see it up close and standing still, so I have no details. It was 2/22/03 or 2/23/03 between 4pm-5pm and I was headed north on I-35 and first spotted it when I entered the freeway near 38th street. Whoever it was... BEAUTIFUL car. Should have shouted out my window with some questions.

Charlie,

Are you looking for a completed car or do you want to build it yourself? Most of the kits have their good points and most have some bad. The key to a good or great car is the builder and the componets used. If you have the skill and or the money you can make most any Kit into a great car. If you don't feel comfortable with building it yourself you must do your homework to find a builder or look at a turnkey, but look at cars that they have built and talk to the car owners. It takes time but it will be worth the time spent

Definitely turn-key. I don't have the time right now to dedicate days, weeks, months to build a kit. I'd love to build one some day but for now I'd like to purchase one already built. I have also considered a used one as well.

Thanks. I'll do some searches for threads on some good builders. Anyone you recommend?

C, After alot of research and questions, I found that for the money a SPF cannot be beat.....It may not be a dead on replica but there is no other brand that is better built.(IMHO) Unless you are a cobra expert you would never know the dif. The only flaw I found w/my car is a bad parking brake and a bad gas cap.

I have to disagree with you a little. Only on the "for the money" part.
For the money SPF CAN be beat, because there is a Cobra glut out there.
SPF is a good car, but in today's market one can get a very good deal on many used cars simply because it is a buyer's market.

Heck, if he looks around he maybe able to pick up an used ERA for the price of a new SPF.

I agree with Turk....SPF or ERA either one are great....with the SPF you can get a turnkey car quicker than and ERA....An ERA will require a small amount of finishing the car but there is nothing like the satisfaction of knowing you finished it...the same can be said for an SPF...you can basically get both of them the same way from the manufacturer...the main difference is going to be time.

Charlie there are a couple of questions that are really simple to answer and will help you on your qwest....

1. How much do you want to spend? Total?
2. How original do you want your car to be? 427/SO 428? or Small block

those 2 will usually narrow down your choices quite a bit.

What's your price range? There are two or three TCC members with their cars for sale.

Ren Man has a great car for sale..he's in Georgetown.

Ed Csoltko has a great FFR for sale too.

Ed's - 30k range. Ren Man's closer to 40k

of course, mine is for sale for the right price! , but who's isn't.

As little as possible. No, seriously about 35K-40K

2. How original do you want your car to be? 427/SO 428? or Small block

I'm not obsessive about how original the car is. I like the small blocks. How's the Roush 351 (402ci) Stroker. Any opinions on engine choice from anyone?

Reliablity of the engine and associated parts are my main concern, not to say that 505HP isn't influencing me either. In the end I think my budet will limit my choices.
