Smile Pace car pictures

Ok,
It took me a better part of a day to figure this out, but I got pictures of the mustang in my photo gallery. this is the mustang pace car that I was talking about in a previous thread (see mustang question in the Texas cobra club forum). This is the 641/2 mustang pace car replica. A friend of mine wanted me to buy it but I think it is out of my price range.

Link to Todds Gallery.

Now I'm still confused on the report of three convertible '64 Stangs that were used as "pace cars" for Indy 500 that year.

As this is a hardtop I'm thinking a certain number of them were built for sale to the public. How many remains unanswered!

The Vin number does indeed indicate it is an original 64 Stang. The generator is also very authentic for the time frame in question. Very likely it is in fact the "real deal". Fascinating!

Cool

There were three convertibles "prepped" for Pace Car duties, two actually made it on to the track for the opening parade lap, the third was sidelined with a mechanical failure (4spd shifter assembly jammed)......There were 150+ "Pace Car replicas" produced as hardtops, for the "Checkered Flag" promotion (sales between dealers and their sales goals). This car, after quite a bit of research is indeed one of those confirmed coupes.......However, there is still the question of hidden rust, as the pictures I have viewed show the door jambs repainted, with a little rust through (aka bleeding) starting to show it's ugly head in that area..........Provided the rest of the car is super clean, detailed properly (which I believe it should be) and rust free, a price range of $9,000-$14,000 should be expected...................

Yours In Educated Fords,

Bill S.
