Default Question about registering in Houston...

... specifically Harris County. What drives the year of registration - body style, age of engine or something else. Considering an SPF with a new crate engine, and wondering how the heck I'd get it registered legally w/o facing emissions hassles. Think 396 stroker or 460 - either would presumably pose emissions problems if registered as a 2003....

Thanks!

If you come to the meeting look for Bill Pierce. He drives a red factory five car. He can tell you exactly what page in TX dot manual to have the clerk look up so that you can do everyting by the book with no problem.

There is an old post by Jim Woodard about this subject.

Engine has nothing to do with it...in Texas you register as a 2003 and then you are inspected based on the year your vehicle represents..so you have to pass 65 standards...hopefully that answers you question.

Texas will issue a REPLICA title similar to a SALVAGE title. You will present the Manufacture's Certificate of Origin(MSO) from SPF, a pre-inspection, receipts for drive train, pictures, and a form indicating you married all components into a vehicle. I forgot the form number, but it's the same form as if you were doing a SALVAGE title.

Anyways, the REPLICA title will indicate the year of car that was replicated and you will register and inspect as that year. Thus, no emmision problems.

Good Luck,

Boudy
