Default Who builds the best engines?

Who are the top engine builders in the US? By top/best I'm referring to those who deliver the best balance of performance, support (warranty - is their such a thing?) and of course price. Any good Texan / Houston engine builders?

And how did most of you mate your cobras with your engines - was it DIY or did you have the engine builder or a third party "fit" the engine?

Can you tell I'm new to this?

Thanks!

Talking

My vote is for Gessford Machine in Hastings, Nebr. George Anderson and his crew do only top notch work and they really do know what they are doing and what they are talking about! They are just finishing the engine for my 66 GT-350. Gessford's is an advertiser on Club Cobra and George owns a Midstates replicar and is active in local and regional racing. He really has a love for our cars and our passion! Can't go wrong with this operation.

I am with Rich, George is building two Shelby 427 motors for us. He has been great, only problem good people are busy so plan to wait.

Engines? If you are speaking of ANY engine, I can't tell you.
Nascar engines, I am sure someone down South. Small blocks I don't know.
If you are interested in FE engines, and Cobra related performance, look no further than Gessford Machine.

Gessford Machine No other choice for a FE. I will not do a Fe whit out Gorge. If you wont a bullet proof SB and money is not tight then RDI,s all aluminum stroker is a reliable 700HP dry sump for about 34K Jack Roush Engine at 18K
550 HP Roush about 10k
If you think that is to high call Saleen
These are the engines a truly grate car deserves there are engines built by smaller builders that will do the job for a lot less But there is always that question in the back of your mind. How much longer can I hold my foot in it!!

I recall Saleen had a lot of trouble with the super charged V6 he modified for the Stang some years back. They wouldn't hold together.

Seems to me it's the new OHC 5.4 like you find in the BIG Ford SUVS and such. Bored and stroked to 400 plus cubes, not to mention seriously tweaked for extra horses.

.....but I could be wrong about the basic engine used (don't think so).

Gotta add Bill Parham at Southern to the mix here. He is Mr. FE and builds some sweet small blocks. Check out the southern web site.

Well, Okay all these folks from across the U.S. giving their recommendations... but you asked about Houston. Sonny Hall in the tiny town of Sweeney (40 minutes SW of Houston) builds as good an FE as you can find anywhere. His state-of-the-art shop turns out engines for customers world wide. He and his sons hold all the records for early Mustangs on the drag strip. He has perfected the 428 Cobra Jet design to a high art over the years in order to achieve these successes. We are not talking $34K, $18K or $10K. (979) 548-3450 at Hall Machine engine shop or (979) 548-2772 at G&S Auto Supply.

Try Keith Craft, He builds more rompin stompin FE's than anybody in the country. They are the only ones that have 7 National NHRA records with their FE's. I'm surprised that all you guys think Gessford is the only Guru for Fe's. Ever heard of Kountz and Craft. Jim Kuntz and Keith Craft. Probably know more about Fe's than any one else in the Country.

No contest.....Jon Kaase, he did the machining on one of my SO before he hit the big time with 700 plus cubes, one of the best people you could ever meet.
He has a super hi-tech shop on the north side of Atlanta but (sorry to say) no time for us anymore.........
