Lone Star Fan Shroud
Question, To all of you Lone Star Competition Kit owners....
Does anybody have pictures of the Aluminum Fan/Nose Shroud for the Lone Star?? I am trying to Fab one from scrach, and it seems to be a bigger task that origanaly thought. If anybody could snap some shots off on how this thing looks completed I would be thankful,
Regards,
Brian

Brian,
Not quite sure which shroud, the reflective piece that fits in the bottom of the nose? I will be out at LS on Saturday and can take pictures of one of the in-house cars if I know what piece you want.

Hey Dave,
After I wrote that I thought nobody is going to understand what the heck I was talking about. I am building the shroud that goes in the front of the car, in the nose (the grill) up to the Radiator. It stops the air from going around the Radiator, and seals off the noise when you look in the front of the car. It is hot here in AZ, and I was hoping that this would solve some cooling problems. The shroud has the oil cooler lines sticking up from the bottom, and they also come in from the sides of the shroud. I hope this helps. I called Lone Star, but Dennis has not returned my calls....? I am interested in how this goes up to the radiator, and is secured to the body/Car. I could use photos of how the hinges for the hood go through the sheet Aluminum???
Thanks for the help!!
Brian

BP, I took a couple pictures but I'm not sure you can tell much from them but here they are.

Thanks 66 snake! Do you have a shot from inside the engine compartment, top of the Radiator/Hinge area? Also a shot from the nose (front of the car), but looking up to the top of the Radiator? I now under stand how they mounted the rear (radiator) of the shroud with the aluminum bracket to the frame. This helps a lot, Thanks again.

Thanks everyone for the shots of the shroud!
I thought this would be a simple project, just trow some sheetmetal in the nose, and it turned out to be a two week project! I did complete the shroud with your help, and will get some pics posted as soon as possible.
Once again thanks!
Brian

Hey guy's
I posted some shots of the shroud under my camera in my profile in case you wondered how the thing turned out. Boy was that some hard work, but the cooling is great, I was running a puller fan, and a pusher fan to stay cool, now I think that I can thake the pusher fan off and still be cool. Took it for a test drive last night and it holds up good at 140mph, wanted to make sure that it would not cave into the radiator. (I was out with another Cobra, I am sure that some of you know how that goes). Well thanks again for the help,
Keep it above 100.............................
Brian

BP,
Thats some really nice workmanship!
My only comment/question is about how you are now forcing all of the air that enters the nose to flow through the radiator. While this will be good for cooling, I just wonder about a pressure buildup in the cowl at high speed, forcing some air to spill out of the cowl. What that will do to handling, you may even feel some buffeting on the windshield when this starts to happen.
All the cowl shrouds I have seen leave an opening somewhere to let excess air bypass the radiator. Don't know if its right, just an observation.

Hey Dave,
Ikinda thought the same thing, take it out on the road and the thing fills full of air and blows up like a ballon. I was worried that the Radiator could not handle the air flow capacity of the nose shroud. It is hard to see from the pictures, but there is 3/4 of an inch on the bottom, and sides to allow the air to escape, I do not like to run the car up to speed on the highway, but last night I did test it at 140 and it seemed to handle good, very solid up front. My friend has a FFR, and his is sheetmetal also, but it does not seal the air intake like the one that I made. Time will tell if it will work, or I need to make mods to the design............ Our first track day is October 4th-5th, so the proof will be in the pudding...
Have a good one,
Brian

Brian,
The shroud looks great; I may have to hire you to do one for me. Like Dave I have questioned what would happen if you caught too much air for the radiator to handle. I suppose you could have an opening out of the shroud with a flap just stiff enough to channel the air until you hit a speed greater than you wanted for the proper air flow. How do you calculate the flexibility of rubber for a certain speed? Oh well maybe I just keep it under 140.

Brian...
140 MPH, I bet that little ole FFR had not even gotten out of 4th gear, and was keeping right up with you...
Which track are you and Jim running on the 4th?

Hey Mikie,
Jim put up a good fight in third, but when I hit fourth watch out, it was like he hit the breaks... The car is so strong on the upper end, and it's like the bunny,,, it keeps going, and going, and going. We pulled into Sonic to get off the road and get something cold to drink, and that is when I told him that I was shifting at 4800, not my 6200 because of the new push rods. He was crushed, and told me that he wants a rematch, and no holding back. We are both set up with cameras, and can't wait to get on the track and shoot some cool video. We are going to run at AMP in October... You should come out, Jerry said that he will be there, if the track is still there....?
Have a good one,
Brian
