Default One Mile High Speed Shoot Out at a retired Air Base in Texas!

ATTENTION Racers and Performance Enthusiast!!
We (NASA Texas) have been conducting road race events in Texas for the last three years. An operator of a retired air base has agreed to rent us their facility for hosting a one-mile high-speed shoot out. We are all interested in finding a place to “run” legally. Here is the chance to prove what you got and run wide open.

Also, we are seeking businesses that want to support the event through being a tech shop, contingency provider and/or awards supporter (through gift certificates, product and cash).

Here are some of the basics:
THE INAUGURAL TEXAS ONE-MILE HIGH SPEED SHOOT OUT
WHEN: Oct. 25-26, 2003
WHERE: Goliad, Texas (abandoned NAVY airfield)
STRUCTURE: 120 foot roll-out, 1 mile run with radar speeds being primary determination of victors backed by timing lights for tie breakers, ½ mile for shut-down
WELCOMING: Motorcycles, Performance Street Cars, Race Cars and Vintage Cars
DRIVERS and RIDERS: Get the Chance to Join the 200+ mph Club of Texas; Win Trophies and Certificates. Working on providing contingencies and cash prizes.
A MOTORSPORTS FESTIVAL: Fun, Safe, well organized and legal. A Full Weekend of High Speeds, Other Festivities and Entertainment. Car Shows. Beautiful Event Hostesses. Wheelie Contest. And More. JOIN IN ON THE FUN.

We are posting updates on the event at: www.nasatx.com/highspeed.asp.
Please contact us with any questions: Thanks: Jay and Shannon Matus: 281-802-9863; Deanna Lewis: 817-243-2286; info@nasatx.com

200MPH in a Cobra? There are a number of reasons that a Cobra won't attain such speed. Aerodynamic forces and engine limits aside....what happened to common sense?? Somebody will lose it at speed and someone will likely die. Then the rest of us will have to deal with tightned regulations, higher insurance, etc etc etc.

Bruce,
If I drop mine out of an airplane from say, 30,000 feet, I could probably get her up to 140mph or so. And It won't take much of that runway to land her either.

Jay,

If we go, I'll take the M5 and ZR1. Doing the math, the M5 will run out of RPM's at 192MPH. I'll go over to Classic and have them jack up the red line and maybe make it. The ZR1 should definately make it.

I don't believe I'LL be the one trying to do it in the Kenne Bell Cobra. I still vividly remember the front lifting on the front straight at Road America and that was well under 200MPH.

Angry 1/2 mile to stop

Get real - I was thinking about showing up and changing the rear gear in the car- half a mile shut down area - even with a parachute and if I could hit(?) 200 mph (putting the rear wing at maximum downforce) - gee, does anyone have an ABS brake system Cobra? I weigh 1900 lbs with 3 gallons of fuel - no way could I stop that quick - good luck is all I can say- I have a four wheel Wilwood disc brake setup and usually do the quarter mile @ 150 mph, with at least a half mile shut down distance at a minimum - make it a half mile race - I will seriously consider showing up - my two cents worth - and this is just with a naturally aspirated motor - no NOX.

I sold mine in December but the only way mine would go 200 or better was if it was being transported by air, in the concord.

130 scared the hell out of me!

Default Classes/Divisions and Rules for 1Mile Shoot Out

Addressing the 200 mph ---- This is for the unlimited class/division, which requires full cages and specific safety gear. We do not expect that the majority of drivers/riders will be in the unlimited division.

Below I am posting the class/division structure. It is important that you visit the web site often to keep updated on the rules and any changes that might occur. We are structuring this event for YOU and are taking into consideration all the suggestions that we are receiving. Those suggestions that seem to be popular and take into consideration safety, fun and organization---we will strive to implement them into the event.

Looks like there is a lot of interest out there. We want to make this event great for all of you. We have added some lower speed groups because many drivers and riders requested that they have a place to compete. We have tried to make the event where everybody has a home and a place to compete or just have fun. The most recent rules and car/motorcycle classifications/divisions are being posted to the web site www.nasatx.com/highspeed.asp by Monday. Please contact us directly with any questions. NASA TEXAS info@nasatx.com 281-802-9863; 817-243-2286.

Runways at the old Goliad (actually located in Berclair, TX) NOLF are 8000 x 150 according to my Airport Facilities Directory. 120 rollout with 5280 run leaves about 1/2 mile shutdown area by my math. No displaced thresholds indicated on the map so once you run out of pavement you're weed hoppin from there. Good news is RNWY 10 has a 0.7% downhill grade

Sounds like a "Who's nut are biggest" contest.
As long as everyone is in their proper class there should be no problem. Mine doesn't lift at 145, but I usually lift much sooner!
