4.6 DOHC Legal & On the Road!
Ok folks, for those of you that didn't believe I was building this here's the update on the cobra forum click here. Note I have some parts for sale so don't be shy about buying them...
Thanks to Neil for helping pull the motor out of the old wrecked '98 I used as a donor for the drivetrain. Also, thanks to Ed #1 for letting me borrow his portable wiper kit for the inspection (which I still have by the way ).
Its been a lot of work to make the drivetrain fit but it was worth it. I even managed to keep the PATS working! I will try to make it to the meet, but no promises until I get more miles under my belt.

Sounds like a plan. I have a few more things to work out (especially the tune, its breaking up at high RPM/load) & then I'll be ready!

Ed,
Just an Ohio guy here admiring your work! Looks great!
I friend of mine & I have talked about just such a Cobra you have built. It's cool to see one on more than paper! We talked about using the 5.4 SC Lightning engine with the AT. Bulletproof power, low maintenance! That combo can push a 4200 lb truck into the 12's, imagine in a 2700 lb Cobra!
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, to see how she drives. It should be a great combo once the tuning is complete.
Hats off to you for a great accomplishment!
Drive safe,
~Dave

The Lightning's motor won't fit under a stock hood, too tall. If you don't mind a big scoop you're right, that would be a hell of a combo.

Mike is right. I'd go with the /03-'04 Cobra motor, those are just as good but in a much smaller (well, relatively!) package.

Dave,
My post above has a 'click here' in it that will take you to my post on the ffr forum. Go back & give it a click!
Maybe I'll drive by on Saturday? I don't think I'm going to do the long drive out 71, the car just hasn't been driven enough yet & I have some sort of stumble that I have to figure out...

You could use "custom made" adaptor plates to mount the stock 4.6 intake system on the 5.4. That will solve the biggest problem with the height issue.
HOWEVER, the 5.4 does have a taller deck height also (measured from center of crank to top of block). If the 4.6 is all ready a tight fit to the hood even with an adaptor it could be a problem.
Your NOT from Australia, therefore, no "giant" hood scoops are allowed. LOL
