TCC Spring Meet Staging Area, Game Plan, & Support Activities
I got the restaurant booked for lunch, and the Hill Country cruise planned. The only thing we all need to establish is where to stage this event. We all beat the Origin parking facility to death. So do we have any other options or suggestions?
Friday:
(1) Arrive at hotel.
(2) Evening tailgate gathering in hotel parking lot from 5:00 - 12.00 pm.
(3) Dinner at local hotel area restaurants (pay as you go).
Saturday:
(1) We can stage at the hotel parking lot for photos and leave for lunch at 11:15 am.
(2) Have lunch at El Arroyo's on Bee Cave (FM2244) from 12:00 - 2:00 pm (pay as you go).
(3) Do a Hill Country cruise from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Returning back to hotel around 4:00 pm.
(4) Dinner from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at local hotel area restaurants (pay as you go).
(5) Tailgate gathering from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
(6) Fairwell drinks/reception in hotel bar from 10:00 - 12:00 pm (pay as you go).
These are my current thoughts.
Additional inputs are welcome. Please keep your inputs short and to the point. We can't satisfy everyone in the TCC, but we will review everyone's comments and give it careful consideration.

Staging Area??
Ed,
Jim, at the Marriott, said there is a parking garage across the street from the hotel that he said could be made available to us!!
He knows the people there and he didn't think there would be a problem with us using that area for staging - he was going to check with the owners for a final say so on the garage!
I'll let you know when I hear from Jim on this issue.
By the way, Jim said there would be no problem with us having access to the hotel roof for taking pictures!!

I'm relatively new, so this will be my first event. Our game plan is to drive the car there and back (top and windows on of course). What advice do you "veterans" have to offer.
Thanks.

Dee,
not trying to be a stick in the mud but I thought the reason we decided not to do Origin this year was that we didn't want to have all the cars and people in a parking garage. Why would we need to use the one across from the Hotel? Is this for dry storage for the cars in case it rains....which we all know never happens
As I said not trying to be a stick in the mud, just trying to understand.

Back Up Plans, Just In Case
Dennis; It never hurts to have a back up plan due to bad weather. I'm also prepairing a back up plan for lunch at El Arroyo's on Bee Cave road just in case of bad weather.
Did you guys notice that I'm using the words "bad weather".
We (TCC) have lucked out for the past four years on the weather window. Since the Annual Spring Meet is set for the last weekend in February, weather has always been a major factor on this event.
Dave; Your always welcome to come over to my house and wet vac your Cobra like Ray Russell did last year. I think Ray sucked out 2 gallons of water from his SPF.

Careful Dennis, I haven't heard that the "Royal" one has put the order in yet for a great weather weekend.
There is a new restaurant/bar downtown called "Fuel". Of course it's theme is fast cars and racing. I think that would be a fun destination sometime during the weekend.

I like Your Plan .Why ? Because the closer we keep everything the more time we can spend time with one another .
Like Cobrastock we really got to spend lots of time with one another and hade lots of fun, besides you guys know how to party .Did someone say I was in charge of the band and HOT SAUSE ??????
Im thinking of all the people that travel long distances this would be just more time together and great rest . All at the same place if you guys need me just call .You know I will set time aside for the Cobra Club any day .

Ed, This year we will have use of my 42' x 20' party tent attached to my trailer, so we can get out of the wind or weather if need be. P.S. It has side curtains for "rain" but we won't need them.
Thanks, db

Ed, these plans sound great to me. Seems like the event is getting "Fine Tuned" a little every year. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
Cowtown, don't sweat a little rain. I will help dry off your wife, I mean car.
Is Tony going to book the band?

Back to the garage issue...
There's a parking lot across the street that seemed to be big enough (although Don B did invite all the folks from Snake, Rattle and Roll so it might be MUCH bigger than last year). That one seemed to have some slope to it also which might help in the picture department.
Just my thoughts.

Please.....No Band...Keep it simple. Nice and peaceful so that people can visit and enjoy themselves instead of having to talk over a band. Our original plan has always been....Keep it Simple!

I don't think a band would be a bad idea...As long as they are playing appropriate music (nothing against tony's band ).
Perhaps and oldies band, etc...definately be fun, and kick the event up a notch.

Keep It Simple!
I agree with Gary about keeping it simple. Bands cost $$$$ which the TCC treasury does not have. The past few years we've been doing a pay as you go event.
With all those power trailers in the parking lot, somebody needs to provide a CD player with some powered speakers so we can play some background 60s music, as well as a microphone to talk to the membership in the parking lot. Last year it was hard to hear what was being said in the back of the crowd.

Just my opinion!
Guys,
My feeling is- "No Bands". Don Barnes has quite a built in CD player/system for his trailer that can get loud if we want it! I agree with the KISS method, and that the focus should(and has always been) be on the people!!!
I don't think we would lose anyone if we don't have a band, but we will if we end up with excessively loud music drowning out all conversation and generally pissing off all the neighbors and all the other hotel guests and the management. Then, we must look at the $$ to pay someone to play, so it just looks like a good idea that really doesn't fit the occasion.
Let's keep the focus on the people most of us only get to see once a year at best, and if any of you have some money earmarked for a band, please send it to Tom Meadows as a donation to bring Brent & Sherrie to Texas! Now, THAT is a worthwhile addition, so please send your extra money in, because this is an area we have already committed to and we need your help there!
Just my opinion,
John Russell

Questions
Who can make name tags for February's Spring Meet?
Who can help assemble packets?
Should we start a seperate sticky sign up thread (non-chat thread) to make name tags and get an accurate head count and Cobra count?
I can use the info for El Arroyo's restaurant planning.

Ed,
I can do the name-tags. I can start a post now for sign up or I can wait a little while, whichever.
Plus I was thinking that I might set up at a table in the hotel (in that loungy area) for the folks coming in Friday night and get them parked in the right spot, where to show up on Saturday morning, etc. What do you think?
