Todd Burnside's 428 makes 636HP/ 620ft/lbs tourqe
Drew and I were very pleased with how Todd's engine turned out and we hope he is also. The engine made 636HP at only 6000RPM's and 620ft/lbs tourqe at 4600RPM's with over 500 ft/lbs tourqe at 2500RPM's. I can't waite for him to get engine in the car and let us know how it does. This is with pump gas and a hydraulic roller. The engine idles on 800RPM's amd makes good power all the way to 6200RPM's. We are working on some more interested projects for some of the other guys, we will keep you posted. Thanks Keith

The engine had 10.6 to1 with Edelbrock Performer RPM and our Edelbrock stage 2 heads with 2.09 and 1.66 valves. We had a custom hydraulic roller camshaft in this engine that has worked very good for us. Thanks, Keith

How do you keep 600+h.p. on the ground with a Cobra?
What use will this car have?
Just Curious...

what use does this car have?
None, that is why I made it. It is just for me.....Kinda like having a Pentium 4 to check e-mail.
Looks cool, sounds cool, is cool. that is what life is about.

None? You wont use it ever? Mine is a weekender and nice weather car and that's it. But, my car weighs 2100 lbs. with a 300 h.p. small block, even though it has 7 lbs/h.p. weight ratio, enough for a Vette or regular Viper. Yours will weigh more, ( not sure about a LS ) maybe under 4 lbs/h.p. weight ratio?
Question still is how do you drive it? With so much power, it appears you can't keep it under full throttle ever, oh forgot your not going to use it!

Good luck!!

Johnnyquest, I have a Keith Craft 520 CID engine with simular hp and tq numbers in my SPF. This is not my first SPF. First one had Ford 460/485 crate engine. The component combination that Keith uses in these engines makes for VERY easy around town driving. Much better than the lower hp crate engine I had. And, in my opinion better than the mid to high hp small blocks. RPM range suits my driving better than the small block. Which I had the oppertunity to drive in Doug Reed's SPF for a month (850 miles) while waiting on an engine swap. So unlike most people, I have a factual basis to draw my drivability conclusions.

Do this for me guys! At the annual meeting here in Austin, give me a ride in your 635 h.p. machine(s), so I can get an idea of what you are talking about.
**Update, see you are from Tenn?** Oh well...
Personally, I want another Cobra with a Authentic 427, which is around 490 h.p and a tad more torque. Then, I can have a balanced machine and a eyeball flatiner!
Thanks, Randy

Randy, or better yet a drive. I'm long past the "look but don't touch" thing. They are just toys now, and besides my mom taught me to share.

Randy, Richard Price is as good as his word!
Randy,
I have known Richard for almost 4 years, and his word is as good as the Gold in Ft. Knox. He met me at my house here in Dallas almost 4 years ago( it will be in February 2004), and we both drove our cars to Austin & back with a caravan from Dallas. We got rained on for all but the FIRST 5 miles or so, and everyone that drove arrived with the exact same color of Cobra-BROWN!! Richard & I spent about $10.00 each in a quarter car wash early the next morning just to get ready for the event. Richard has been a member of the Texas Cobea Club since then, and he has made it every year!! He has brought other owners/enthusiasts with him every year since then and has helped make our club what it now is today.
I think you are going to enjoy the drive in his car a BUNCH this coming February- if YOU come to Austin, so no excuses- SHOW UP!!

Just throwing this in the pot. I also have a Lone Star Cobra. The engine is a 428 FE. Last year it dynode at 501 HP/ 550 torque. I broke a rocker shaft, bent the pushrod ect.... I'm in the process of rebuilding it now. Machine work is done, bored to .060 over, Ross pistons, Lunati "H beam' rods, custom grid cam by Comp ( solid .600/.600 duration at .015 tappet lift 290/298 split for better exhaust, set at .050/ 106 center. Duration-intake= 252 exhaust= 260, lobe lift exhaust 3530 intake 3530. Lobe sep.=110. (10.7: 1 compression) I ported the heads & will flow them later. B.G 850 carb, Edelbrock RPM intake which I ported & matched the headers. We'll see what it produces this winter but, should be around......630-650 HP. I can't keep hooked up with the small street tires. With a buddys slicks+compound, great weather conditions ect...it ran the 1/4 at 10.498 sec. I have no idea how I will hook up the revised engine. It's mostly for bragging & all out sound. I'll race it once & a while but use it on the street. I set this cam up for my car & my needs. With the BB motor, TKO tranny & Ford 9" it weights at 2400 lbs. I talked with Comp many times & hopefully I have a great combo ? Comp is now going to produce this cam so, if anyone wants it, I have the serial number. If, I can get it to hook-up, it should be a radical launch guys ! We'll see ?
Kevin

Randy,
I am on my 4th Cobra now and three of the four have had pretty high HP.
1. 385 HP 351 crate engine (Nice but not fast enough)
2. 500 HP 351 with Paxton Supercharger (Very streetable & fast)
3. 514 crate with 604 HP (Very streetable too much tork down low)
4. Kieth Craft 351 stroker to 427 with 638 HP very streetable and tork up higher and really fun to drive!
The key is a great engine builder and setting it up right including the carburetor. Most make it to rich and/or have the off idle lean stumble. Get it right and 600 HP on the street is fine!
See you in Austin and be happy to take you for a blast.........

No use
What I said about the car having no use, kinda joking. I know it is overkill but it is going to be fun. There is really no use for a car having so much Horsepower. I drove a 1963 vw ragtop for 6 years (until last April) and it had 40 horsepower, not much use for that either!!!!!!
I will post a copy of the dyno sheet this week. I think that you will be impressed. I sure am.

I sometimes wonder what our customers do with all of this horsepower in a 2300lb car, but I want to give them what they want. What you have to remember if a Vett or Viper come up beside you at 60 to 70 mph you want to make sure you blow there doors off and 600 plus horsepower will usually do it. Like they say better to have to much than not enough.
Todd's engine was done with a 428CJ block that was already .060 over but you could use smaller bore of corse. We use a Scat 4.250 cast steel crank, Scat 4340 H-beam rods, Custom JE pistons, moly rings, Federal Mogul bearings, Melling HV oil pump, Canton T-style oil pan, Ford Racing indexable timing set, our stage 2 Edelbrock heads, Comp Cams custom hydraulic roller camshaft, Crane hydraulic roller lifers, Comp Cams Hi-tech pushrods, T&D roller rockers, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, DaVinci 950 HP carburetor, MSD distributor and Ford Racing wires. We have done several of these combinations with the 428 blocks. This engine runs on premium pump gas and idels at 800RPM's. What has happened in this market is that most people do not get the horsepower they should for what they are paying. We have changed all of that and up set some in the market place. Good luck, Keith

Sounds like fun! I live just outside Austin on Lake Travis, this will be my first TCC annual meet.
I really like the people I have met and of course the cars! What a group!
Thanks, Randy
