600+ Horsepower Cobras HOW MANY ???

Here in the DFW area of the Texas Cobra Club,it seems like almost everyother week someone else is getting an engine upgrade.

600 plus horsepower is getting to be the rule rather than the exception.


THE QUESTION IS :

How many of you have the 600+ HP in your Cobra,Coupe or GT40 ????

625 HP through the mufflers
Ran engine on dyno with exhaust system from car
495 cid Shelby block, and heads 4.3 Moldex Billet Crank, Carillio Rods, Weber manifold with TWM throttle bodies, FAST EFI

My engine dynoed at 622,I havent driven the car that much,but honestly ,it didnt feel Like I expected,it is a high riser and makes peak at 6500,so I havent had the oppurtunity to try it at it's best.low end is milder though than a normal high riser.

Fred, It was nice meeting you Saturday at the meeting. I have the same 392 crate engine that you have. I haven't had my car long but have been told by several that it will seem fast at first and then I'll get use to it and want to upgrade. If that's the case I may join the 600 club as well and give Keith Craft some business. Todd

It was good meeting you as well.I believe you will find many new friends in the TCC.
There are just a couple you have to watch out for and you have already met Tom.

I agree with getting use to whatever horsepower level you have after awhile.

I wonder if any of the HIGH horsepower (600+) guys feel like they have hit the "Too much might be enough" yet ???

I intended to say my high rise feels milder on the low end than a stock med riser.
i would like to add,unless you plan lots of high rpm track time,go for torque,most street driving is gut feel and showing off,the torque is what you feel,lots of hp isnt that useful if you have reach rpm for the street,,in my opinion at least.
I say 450-550 hp at the crank and enough torque to make your chest hurt is the ticket,,Tim

How to hold it down in a 2,000 - 2,400 lb Cobra.....Put a set of 325/15/50 BF Goodrich Drag Radials on the rear............

No, I'm sure there are plenty of them out there. But since I've never heard of anyone racing a dyno I don't wave my dyno sheet around like it's a trophy.

I'm just proud to say that my small block has enough HP to earn 1st Place on the Road Course in Prepped BB class at Run & Gun.
And at the same time, I'm very surprised that it was enough HP to beat all the cars in the Pro BB class as well, with one exception: Road Course Top Dog Tony Martin and his 630 hp small block BDR. I guess I should have bought some more HP to make up for my L.O.F.T. Though...I probably would have done a little better with my under-powered (625hp)car had I ever been on a road course before.

My 427 SOHC sports dyno sheets and 615 hp - it's definitely a load to try to put on the ground - but, as they say 'You can't have tooooo much horsepower'.

600 HP 427 FE's, Now that's something to brag about.

Do you live off of Keller Springs? I was leaving an overtime job at a church and saw a silver cobra driving up keller springs onto kelly. Was that you? If so nice car sounds great!

Making 508 crank (yeah I know you asked for 600+!!) but couldn't imagine 600+ unless someone came up with a unique single rear tire that ran the entire width of the car.

Although with 9 lives and an extra gear or two, come to think of it, that might be kinda fun...
