Default Houston Group Please Read

This is an email that I sent out to the people in the Houston area that I had email addresses for.

Hi everyone,

I hope 2004 is finding you well and I hope that those of you working on cars find lots of time to finish them and those with finished cars find lots of time to drive them!

I wanted to take this opportunity to communicate to you guys some news and some changes and get some feedback. Some of you may get this twice as I am mailing to both the Yahoo list and the old manual list I use to keep. Sorry for such a long email.

NEWS

It's that time of year again. The last weekend in Feb is the BIG Texas Cobra Club meet in Austin. We had over eighty Cobras last year and breaking 100 would be awesome. It would be great to have 30 cars just from Houston.

The information is as follows:

The hotel rooms are blocked off ( Single or Double ).
Price is the same as last year - $ 89.00 per night for either room.
The rooms are available at the Austin Marriott North - Round Rock, TX.
Call 512-733-6767 and ask for the Texas Cobra Club rooms.

There is a great cruise planned through the hill country on Saturday.
Also go to this link http://www.clubcobra.com/t47769.html and sign in so that you will have a name tag and map when you get there.

If you have not made your plans to be there, this is an event that you will not want to miss. We will be taking off on Friday Feb. 27th at around 1pm on our way to Austin taking some back roads. If you plan on attending, please email me and also go to the link above to get registered for a name tag. If you do not have a log in to post on Club Cobra, let me know and I will post the info for you so you will have a tag. You still need to go to the link to see the format. But be sure and let me know because I want to keep a Houston head/car count.

For those of you that like to Drive!!!!! We will have at least 1 cruise planned every month starting Feb. May even go drop in on David in Kountze. Most will average at least 100 miles. All the cruises might not be where you want to go (in which case you need to plan one) but there will be cruising. They will not take the place of the monthly meet and greets. Anyone want to take a wild guess as to where Feb's cruise will be going? Anyone want to volunteer to plan a cruise let me know and we will give you a month. Weekend trips do count...

CHANGES

The Yahoo Group will no longer allow members that choose "No Email" or "Special Announcement" as a delivery option. IF that method is chosen I will change it to daily. Given that we average 6 or so messages a month (should be a tad bit more this month and next), I don't think that's going to kill anyone's mail box.

I would also like to get a little feedback as to why so many people have not joined the Yahoo group. I keep getting comments like "I never know what's going on anymore" from people that seem to want to know what the club is doing but have not joined. Some great cruises have been missed (Austin, corpus Christi, Lockhart ect...) and most of you even missed the opportunity this past weekend to take a close and dare I say hands on look at an original Cobra CSX2453 (I think) that is currently being restored here in Houston. It's easy to sign up. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Houstoncobraclub/ and sign up so that you can keep yourself informed as well as communicate with other Houston Cobra Club Members.

#2 With a new year, I propose we rethink our lunch meeting spots. I personally think that the Joe's crab shack location has played out. We get a smaller and smaller group there every month. Even people in the area don't show for this meet. 59 Diner hasn't been a big draw either. Willy's Ice house seems to really pack them in and we always have a good turnout at Sundance Grill.

So the questions are 1) should we just alternate the monthly meetings between the two? 2) Should we try to find 1 place (that will at least give us a discount on lunch or free drinks) and always meet there? 3) Since Willy's isn't even part of the regular rotation, Drop Joe's and add Willy's and keep the 3 standard rotating spots with one open spot every 4th meeting?

INFORMATION

You can always find out what's going on with us at the following places:

www.ClubCobra.com (local clubs- Texas section)
www.FFCobra.com (This site has a lot of activity and moves REALLY fast so you may have to check the regional section near the bottom)
Http://groups.yahoo.com/group/houstoncobraclub/ The Yahoo mail list. That is the best way to contact and be in the know for local cobra events
Cobraden@houston.rr.com My personal email address. This is were I get my email from the Yahoo group as well.

Give me some feed back....preferably on the Yahoo list so all intersted parties can read. Let's have some fun with the cars this year!

Dennis

Dennis,

Do you know how many from here are driving their cars to the TCC event in Austin as opposed to trailering them?

Also is the holding area for the cars covered as well as policed?

I would love to take my Spec Racer to the event but do not have a top nor car cover that fits at this time.

Also I really like the idea of replacing Joe's Crab shack with Willie's Ice House on a regular basis.

Thanks for all your time and effort in keeping the Houston group organized.

Warm regards,

Terry

Terry,

No real idea on the numbers yet but that should start to flow in and the Yahoo group will be where most let me know on that (I hope) and I will keep everyone informed of the head count, meeting place ect..

I would expect at least 10 or 12 will drive and 2 or 3 will trailer minimum.

The parking lot is not covered but it is safe. I have taken my car every year (except the first because it wasn't finshed yet) and to my knowledge no one has had a problem. There are people around the cars all the time.

Hope you make it. I still haven't seen the car in person!

Dennis,

Depending on my work situation and the weather at that time, I would like to drive mine up to the event.

I've got to find a car cover that will fit over the spec racers roll cage so that we can keep it from becoming a portable sana if it rains!

Hopefully one day I will actually get to bring it out to a meeting and make one of the "cruises"!

Thanks for the input.

Terry

Terry,

Try an off the shelf cover for a vette. I had to get one for mine , because of the full width roll bar, all of the cobra covers I could find were for a single driver side roll bar, or no roll bar. The vette covers are made to cover a car with a top on it. If it looks like rain put a piece of plastic under the cover.( A cheep plastic paint drop colth works great. ) The cover will keep the plastic in place.

Hi Steve, I do remember you! Good to hear from you. To be on the Yahoo list, just go to the link and sign up. It's not a list that I put people on, they add themselves. That's the beauty of it. If it were dependent on me, people might not get added for weeks This way they can add themselves right away.

Hope the health problems get better and we see that cobra on the road someday soon. Let the group know if you ever need help with the car. There are a bunch of us that like to tinker.
