Solid Lifters vs Hydraulic Lifters

Rumor has it that some of our MEMBERS perfer a Hydraulic lift as opposed as a Solid Lift!!

Mr. Woodard...I would consider you in good company as I too prefer hydraulic over solid. With a solid one you have to depend on a fixed mechanical object in order to make it work....used by a lot of real "old timers" and Royality. With hydraulics it is the normal flow of youthful juices that makes everything work....nothing to adjust or fiddle with as nature takes care of everything. When the juices stop flowing it just means your're dead...simple as that. Hydraulics is like letting your natural youth do the work without wrenches..."feeler" gauges and such as needed with a solid.....with hydraulics you simply "set it" and "forget it" as it will take care of itself.

I don't like hot oil or hot components touching my hands or other body parts. I'm sticking with the hydraulic roller for ease of maintenance. I don't spend much time above 6K anyway.

On the opposing side, I find a bit snappier and crisper initial throttle response from solids even below 5,500 rpms on the exact same type motor configuration. Two local friends just collapsed a hydraulic lifter on their cars... Pulling the intake for just one lifter...so this could be debated in different ways based on ones needs and desires - in my humble opinion.

I don't put a lot of miles on my car and just can't seem to get myself to get rid of the beautiful sound of solids radiating a bit through the aluminum valvecovers; Then again, I prefer black sidepipes and rollbars over chrome too. Sort of goes together, don't ya think?.

High-rev hydraulic lifters are the best of both worlds. You get the advantage of no adjustment after set up and almost the same rpm potential.
Just another opinion.
