Thumbs up Houston to Austin Route for Friday

Hey guys, Here is the route we came up with. I don't know where mapping programs get their timing but I'm betting they are WAAAAAAYYYYY off. OR they expect us to be driving an average of about 28 miles an hr through out the trip.

Anyway, I'll do this in two post since the Free map program made me do it in segments.

First off, from Houston to Giddings

Route Summary
Start Point (77079 Zipcode)
Address 1 (Sealy, TX)
Address 2 (bellville, TX)
Address 3 (Industry, TX)
Address 4 (Shelby, TX)
Address 5 (round top, TX)
End Point (Giddings, TX)
125.8 miles, 4 hours 32 min, 54 turns

I figure, even if we go "slow" we should do this in about 2.5 hrs. That's roughly 50 mile per hr.

I'm guessing that if we leave @ 1pm from the Sam's parking lot on Hwy 6, we should be in Giddings around 3:30 so if any of you guys taking the northern route want to meet up with us, let me know.

The second part would be from Giddings to the Hotel in Round Rock

Route Summary
Start: Start Point (giddings, TX)
Via: Address 1 (lexington, TX)
Via: Address 2 (Taylor, TX)
End: End Point (Round Rock, TX)
Totals: 73.2 miles, 2 hours 4 min, 43 turns

I'm thinking 1.5 hrs on this at most....(traffic lights and such)

Cool, if we leave Conroe about the same time we'll cross paths about Carmine. Can't wait to see the crew thundering down the road.

Dennis, right now it looks like I won't be able to go, and I'm jealous as hell, but there's still a possibility. If you guys are leaving from the Sams at Hwy 6 and I-10, how bout this as an alternate for the front section of the route...go north on Hwy 6 toward US 290, turn west on FM 529, and take 529 to Bellville and pick up the rest of your route from there? A very nice and scenic drive (for Houston flat-land country), better than I-10.
Where and what time are you guys meeting?

Ken we will meet around 12:30 andleave @ 1pm from the Sam's parking lot on Hwy 6, we should be in Giddings around 3:30 so if any of you guys taking the northern route want to meet up with us, let me know.

As for the change to the route that sounds good. The only concern I have is the left turn on to Hwy 6 From Sams and keeping everyone togethter.

Guys let me know who's planning to show up at Sams and who plans to meet us in Giddings.

To make the left turn onto HWY 6, go out the north Sams parking lot entrance/exit onto Park Row, theres a dual left turn from Park Row onto Hwy 6 north.
I'm about to pick up my parts. I'll try to get the blue goose together and make the jaunt up with you guys. If not, be safe and have loads of fun!

Dennis, We hope to meet as usual at Sam's again this year. Don't wait for us if you don't see us, as we have a bunch of women this year and you know how that goes.

Dennis, sounds like an excellent plan. I won't need my little yellow rain slicker will I? Pete.

I plan to be a part of the crew leaving from Sam's at Highway 6 and I10. I'm having trouble picturing where it is. Is it on the Northwest corner?

Also, I like the suggestion for the 290 route. I'd prefer to stay off of I10.

Would any of the Sugar Land area folks want to rendevous earlier at someplace like Willie's at Highway 6 and 90, and then cruise up to Sam's together?

Just looked at the route again and it seems we could take Highway 90 for some of the route where it parallels I10. If that is the case, we would only have to be on I10 for a short distance.

David,
There is a Chick-fil-a on 105 just west of I45, we could meet there about noon and grab something to eat and be on the road by 1:00p if that works for y'all. Or if you want you can we can meet at Hooters on I45 just south of Conroe (about 11 miles, exit 76). Your choice.

Come on Ken, no excuses! Get the car together, or show up anyway.

Mark, I'll call you later this week when I find out when I can get the kids out of school. (I think their "Uncle Harold Shelvy" passed away and we must attend his wake in Austin this Friday!

Did someone mention "Hooters?"

Rick what time do you figure you'll be going by Willie's?

Boyd,

It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get to Sam's, so I think if we left Willie's around 12:15 we would be fine. I'd probably get there around 12:00, maybe earlier if folks were interested in a quick lunch.

Matt makes a good point. How did I leave College Station out of the route....I'll have to look at re-routing us through the center of the universe.

Thanks for catching that mistake Matt
