Angry Meeting date debate

Ok ladies and gents,

Maybe I'm just a little out there, but haven't we had this conversation before. Like at the end of the first meeting and the second and the third and the 4th and each time we settle it and every year it's brought up again. Can we give it a rest?

We can do other events, right? I wonder if the organizers of the Tulsa event have this conversation EVERY year?

Have more events....and attend them.

Blake put's one on in May....how many attended?

Tony does a great one around his birthday.....awesome drive and great bbq and a pretty good turnout but he has a lot more room.

The Waco crew puts on an event as well

Paul Cass plans a great event down in Corpus...gotta go to that. rained this year (event not in feb) but we had fun anyway.

You are all welcome to my house anytime....it would drive my neighbors crazy...

What I'm saying is ....having the same debate over and over is like explaining to my 3 yr old neice over and over again why she can't have snickers bars for dinner.....she's 3.

We are ADULTS...although I dont always act like it...we have talked about this to the extreme...Can we move on to someting else and maybe argue something else ad nauseum.

I FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW...IGNORE IF YOU LIKE AND KEEP ON DEBATING.

Dennis,

You read my mind. If you go through the Clubcobra forum TCC archives and look at the post right after the February shows. We have the same complaint.
Yes I believe we could find a different date. But February is the real start of the cobra season. Like the daytona 500. February is the annual Cobra Party in Austin. Weather wise we have been pretty lucky. This year I thought was the worst for the event. But this is actually the latest we have had the event.

Keep February and lets do Tony's in September, Pauls in November and the Waco event is in June. Looks like we have every quarter covered.

BTW I would rather have a Milky Way Dennis ....

This is the first year I've come up the night before, but we've had predominantly blue skies for every other Austin event. This one did have pretty gloomy weather on Saturday but Friday was beautiful, and I didn't encounter precipitation until I was headed home Saturday afternoon. It was pretty chilly Friday night and Saturday morning, but if you push it too far off you're going to start encountering the opposite problem...

BTW, Blake's crawfish boil was a blast last year. He really went all-out with a huge amount of food, a live band, and lots of drinks. I think we had seven or eight Cobras and one GT40...it sure would be nice to have, you know, ten times that many...right, Blake?

Default "Febrero es loco y marzo no poco"

The nice bartender shared that with me Sat. Basically it means February is crazy and March is some. Texas weather is definitely that, but then you get into the English saying about April Showers. So I really think we've have a pretty good weekend right where we are. And of course in the grand scheme of things we should consider that this is a great problem to have. How many of our friends up north can't even get their car out of the garage this time of year?

And Gregg's right - this was pretty late. Looking back at last year this time we were smack in the middle of an ice storm. And without leap year thrown in, this event would've ended in March.

Alan and I are planning to head down sometime in April to cruise the Hill Country with the wildflowers in bloom. I'll post and y'all will be more than welcome to join us.

I just thought of something else...

If this were truly a crappy weekend to have it, would we be getting so many out of state folks driving in from Tennessee, Florida, California, the far part of Louisiana, etc?

We must be doing something right - they keep coming back.

Just my $.02...

Just a week or two later would probably guarantee that the weather would be warm enough to avoid the occasional low/cold temps and have a better chance of sunny days.

I just think we have been lucky because every year we were looking a it raining or being cold either a couple of days before or after the event.

However, a lot of people have a valid point of just having events more often than just once a year now that we are getting a good attendence at the annual event.

I've been there all 5 years and we have been lucky on Saturday, really only three were warm, but most of the Fridays were either raining or cold. Even this year Friday was a bit nippy............and Saturday was a bit cold. I think the weather is not the only issue. Many of us would like to take the run when every thing is green and in blume..........Also, I thought we had 98 cars registered so what happened to the others????????????????

I hear several of you say this is a great time of the year but when I was talking to many participates at the event, it seemed many thought we should move it down the road a few more weeks like the end of March or first part of April.

What ever the club wants to do is fine with me but I think we would get a greater turn out with warmer weather!

I also agree that we need an event up in Dallas sometime and think this will be a good topic for discussion at the next monthly meeting.........

Can anyone out there make a custom saddle for my 6 mo. old?

Default Keep the date, add an event

My thoughts on this are numerous but I keep coming back to the fact that we need more events like the one in Austin. If we move our anniversary date, it will take the place of what could be another event somewhere else. My vote is to keep the same date for the Austin Anniversay(with the below changes) and let Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio host an event in late March or April. I don't know about you guys, but after last weekend, I'm ready to do it again SOON!

CHANGES-
Although the date in Feb. is risky, it really does mark the beginning of the driving season in Texas. This year, the turnout was huge. More cars, more people, and more bigrigs. Some of you actually came Thursday night and were able to partake in the best weather of the year on Friday afternoon. Adding another day to the event would do a number of things for us:

- more time to spend with people (most important)
- more time to take care of business (hard to get in the meeting, group meal, cruise(s), give aways, pictures, etc with so many folks to coordinate)
- a better chance of hitting beautiful weather to drive the Hill Country

So I vote to keep the same weekend, only add Friday to event. The hotel has already agreed to come down further on their price if we were to add Thursday night to our reservations.

Default Friday added to calendar.

I think that is a good idea to add Friday to the calendar. We could make Friday evening a dinner at the hotel and a formal meeting to conduct any business. Saturday is the cruise and pictures followed with a lunch for awards and raffle stuff! We get more time with Friends and extended family. Just my $.02

BTW Next Year's event will be 25 - 27 February 2005. If we add Friday and make Thursday a travel day. Then 24 - 27 February 2004. Not that I'm looking ahead!

Thumbs up Great Suggestions!

Stretch, Great suggestion adding Thursday to the 2005 Spring Meet weekend. Having a four day event would enhance our Spring Meet.

Thursday arrival (evening tailgate party).

Friday setup group photo, all day car show, and an evening dinner at the hotel (formal meeting to conduct any business).

Saturday cruise-lunch-cruise (awards and raffles at restaurant). Evening tailgate party.

Sunday departure.

What say you all for a four day event?

hey guys
the first year when there were less than 30 cobras, all of us had time to mix, mingle, look, and enjoy each others company. now the event has gotten so large that its very difficult to do those things. i know that i was looking forward to seeing people and cars and there just wasn't enough time. because of the size of the event, and it will only get bigger each year, we should expand it to at least two days. i know in all of the confusion of moving cars and trying to take pictures on saturday i forgot to call my wife and by the time she arrived we were leaving. two days would give everyone more time to do things and for those that travel a long ways it wouldn't be such a short weekend. i like ed's idea of checking in on thursday night and then have friday and saturday to do things.

Just another thought...

I love the hill country cruise, but if the Dallas group wanted to host either an annual event or another event at some other time in the year there would be a great opportunity to utilize some of the outstanding tracks (Texas Motorsport Ranch or NASCAR circle track) in their "local" area.

These would be a little safer to "open up" or stretch the legs on some of our cars and give everyone an opportunity to stay together exclusively on a "cruise"

Wink OK,Ok, I give!! Add a day & keep it as is!

OK,OK!!
I think an additional day is a true winner of an idea and I see this as a done deal!! Even though I think we should move the event back to take advantage of warm weather and the beauty of Spring in the Texas Hill country, I will hereby withdraw that idea and through my support to keep it as it is. Truth be known, I'd just as soon keep it in February so we can continue the tradition of the biggest Texas Birthday party for Gary Morris and I like we have been doing !
There, I said it!! Keep it like it is and add a day!
Gary, we are just going to have to continue to celebrate in style!

WACO event is the first part of May! Could make a very good cruise to check out the bluebonnets and give us another excuse (like we need one) to get together!

Looks like it's been posted but has no responses.

Default Poll

Ryan, Please post a vote poll for either February or March for our spring meet next year. Let's get the TCC to settle the debate. One vote per member. Thanks, Ed
