Houston Questions
Hello Future fellow texans, It looks like I will be transferred to Houston in October, I will be working for Shell at their refinery in Deer Park,The areas I have been scouting on the internet are from the top, say at 12 o'clock, the woodlands to 6 o'clock at pearland just to save me a really long commute, can someone in that area give me the names of some good reputable builders and neighborhoods to look at in the $200,000.00-$300,000.00 range. I have really been looking at Clearlake and Humble, My wife and I will be there to just look around in the next couple of weeks, because we have never been to Houston or Texas for that matter, any and all help would be appreciated. Oh,also I will be coming out by myself for about the first 7-8 months, so my son can graduate from high school here next year, so if you could guide me to a decent apartment or condo complex too, I only need 1 bedroom.
Yee haw and thanks!!!

I would look in the Clear Lake area because it is close. There are plenty of new homes and builders available. I grew up in Houston and traffic well its horrid, but its also the 4th largest city in the US so stay clear. Humble is way too north about the same as The Woodlands. Clear lake is a booming area and its nice.
If you find a lot you could go with David Weekley, they now build on your lot and so does Newmark, they are both reputable and in your price range.
Good luck, welcome to Texas.

I'll second the stay away from Humble idea. You'd be signing yourself up for the commute from hell. You should be able to find many nice homes in Clear Lake or Friendswood.
Welcome to Houston. We look forward to seeing you at the monthly meets!

Hey Gordon,
You need to talk with Tom Mauldin as he works for Lyondell-citgo and lives in Pearland. I'm sure he could give you some good information.
His email address is:
tmauldin@houston.rr.com
Tell him that Terry said to look him up.
Regards,
Terry

Gordon,
I could give you a dozen or so recommendations for a good home in Houston and the surrounding areas( I am a homebuilder).
Our market is very buyer friendly in comparison with the rest of the country. You will be surprised to see how much " bang for the buck" you can get! I'll send you an e-mail with a few places to check out.

Welcome to Houston, Gordon. Clear Lake is a good place to live if you will be working in Deer Park. I aggree with the others, you can get a lot of house for the $ in Houston. As stated, traffic in our city is murder. I live in NW Houston and work in the Post Oak/Galleria area. 19 miles and my comute is anywhere from 50 min to 1 1/2 hours! Get as close as you can so you have more time driving your B&B. We have Texas Cobra Club meetings normally on the second Sat of each month. Lots of great cars and good people.
