Track Day at Texas Motor Speedway
Texas Driving Experience is sponsoring a track day at Texas Motor Speedway on Thursday, May 4th, 2006. Here's the text of the announcement sent out to the TDE mailing list.
Hi Speed Racers!
It is that time again! Roval Days at TMS with Texas Driving Experience! Join us for 4-30 minute Sessions on the 2.5 mile ROVAL (Oval and Infield Road Course, combined!) for a day of personal thrills and the ability to get tons of track time before the SCCA race weekend!
Send in your completed enrollment form, to me, asap. Be sure you call all your friends and foes to attend. This will insure meeting minimum participation requirements for your running class.
Street Car (Wild and Mild Sessions) : Drive your street car at TMS! All attendees will be required to attend a 45 minute vehicle dynamics/drivers meeting and "Lead/Chase" sessions (see itinerary). Your enrollment includes lunch in the Clubhouse.
SCCA: Your groups will hit the track immediately (see itinerary) after a very brief (10 minute) drivers meeting. If you would like lunch, just check the appropriate box on the enrollment.
EARLY ENROLLMENT: Big change this year...if you can, please stop by the TDE Office (Suite #118 in the 10-story Lone Star Condo & Office Towers) anytime Wednesday, May 3rd, between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to pick up your wristband and instructions for the next day. IF you can stop by, this will save you a time on Track Day! We are located under the covered ramp in the Lone Star Towers,
Hope to see you all again for another safe, on-time day of fun! Please call me with any questions or email or fax (682.502.8530) your completed enrollment ASAP.
Kind Regards,
Dawn Stokes

I sure would like to be there today but I took off last Thursday for a day at Hallett. Looks like you guys could get a lot of rain today so bring something other than slicks. Have fun!

All those times without a working speedo, and this time I was too scared to look!
(j/k-- I saw close to 90, but the 'crew' guy said in the lead/chase we were closer to 100)
Then, when I was 'by myself', I went pretty fast but couldn't look!
I doubt I pegged over 100 though. Faster than the first time I went!
I wish I had some buddies there to play with.... maybe next time???
bunch of waxers, that's what ya'll are.... sheesh!!!!
Guess who HAPPENED to call this afternoon??? None other than Mr. Morris!
you remember, the guy that slept on the floor of the garage when he sold me the car. The guy that detailed this car, one little speck at a time... the guy that hand lettered the tires, EVERY year!!!!
He called, and I said "do you know where I am?" He said, no..... I said "Texas Motor Speedway!!!!!" He immediately said an unkind word or two, and then 'had to go', a customer was there! hahahahaha
But.... it IS more fun with somebody to play with out on the track...
Kristen
how's it going James????
the ffr spec racer and me...
This weekend (starting tomorrow) evidently is a huge SCCA event. Lots of different kinds of cars out there today, running practice runs. Dunno the names of classes...
Some 'spec' formula looking cars. whew, some are really fast! approx. 150 mph or so.
I did a major big skid, from the back of the oval, coming into the infield. Scared me a bit. Didn't run off the road, or hit anything. And, didn't have time to wet my britches!
Lots of wet spots on the asphalt from the early showers. Dry, wet, dry wet.... It was a challenge!
I'm going to bed!

Glad you made it home safe, Kristen. Car looks great at the start/finish line. I'd love to join you next time, sounds like a blast! My front tires were 8 years old and quite out-of-round so I haven't been able to get above 50 mph or so but got 2 new ones today and I'm really itching to get it up to some speed.
Couldn't take off another day this week (snuck out to play golf on Wed.) And I'm not tired of taking photos of the new ride and that would be a great place to get some cool shots.

hey, Buzz.... got a few pics of the 'fast cars'. What does your brother run??
Miles.... First time I did TMS, I had 'old' tires, and one was plugged.... Wasn't able to go really fast (that's the excuse anyway) because you really shouldn't put old, plugged tires on the track. (mine was plugged AT TMS, because I had a flat there) They all knew I wasn't going to push the car, and they let me run it. To get a few pics!!!! Anyway, this time I felt a lot more confident, with 4 new tires all the way around. It was a blast!!!!!!
I wish more from the Dallas/Ft. Worth group would come out. A lot of the 'oldtimer's' have done this kind of stuff years ago (before I got into it) and I guess you get tired of the wear and tear, and potential danger. It was tons of fun, but today my arms and shoulders are really sore!
So, it's up to the new young guys (like you) to 'carry the torch'!!!!
I'd like to do Motorsport Ranch again, with the added road course. And, I'll probably do Hallett again, and maybe the dragstrip, all in Tulsa in June.
Everybody needs to come to that one!

Sounds like you had a really great time !
That hairpin turn past turn 2 onto the infield course can be exciting the first couple of times.
Was it trail braking, too fast or still wet ???
Glad you didn't hit that wall and messing up yourself or HH2.
It was nice of those spec racers to get out of your way and not slow you down.

I actually thought about taking my grocery getter out there this time (no longer have my F250) but just returned from Vancouver and did not have the time to spare.
If Jim has another one of these events, I am going to plan well in advnace to ensure I don't miss it. And if he does it in 2009, I may even have the Cobra running by then

Sounds like y'all had fun. I need to get up to TMS again. It's fun to flog these cars on a racetrack.

It was great fun!
(hey, why didn't ya'll tell me I had the same pic twice! )
I was thinking this might be your brother, Buzz, but it's black, and I think #40 or 43.
this is coming into the infield. Not the time I slid, though. that was earlier, when the track had a lot of wet patches. This is during lead/chase. My turn to 'lead' (behind the instructor in the yellow vette).
Fred, I don't know what 'trail braking' is.
too wet? probably. too fast? definitely!
