What I know, and that ain't much
OK, heres the beef.
A) It's only a 1/8 mile track.
B) I was informed verbally by my buddy: "No roof; helmet required. Long pants and shoes required". (Sorry Miles, no flip flops, and no skirts Kristen (I read the other thread)) The diligent work staff did not check my helmet for the rating. Gym J Cups is going to wear his 1/2 motor cycle.
C) We haven't planned yet, but Gym and I will meet any one in the Rockwall Home Depot parking lot. Located on the I-30 service road west of Ridge Road/ FM 740. Remember it's this SUNDAY, November 19th. Departure time 12:40. 15-20 minute drive time to strip. Kristen, Gym and I will probably meet at the Mobil station in Heath about 12:20.
D) I don't know if Shane will be there, but there are plenty of folk there who will give us advice. Some even have more than 5 teeth.
E) You can be racing against anything with street tires. Pickups, VW bugs, Pinto's, etc. If you have slicks, you race against slicks. During the first hour, you can request solo.
F) At the gate, $15 for racing and driver admission. (Bring cash) You get a wrist band and pick up your tech card.
G) If you enjoy protecting you ears, bring ear plugs. We set up right next to the track and it gets pretty loud when the high performance guys run.
H) My daughter and a friend are going to go and will be armed with the camcorder again. If we're nice to her, she'll put a montage together again for public viewing. Kristen, bring one of your kids this time. Quite a few kids are running around of all ages. Some race, some watch.
Questions?
Steve S.

none of my kids can drive!!!
altho' i do have a son that might be interested in your daughter... still want me to bring him???
I'm not too sure about the time thing. IF I GO TO CHURCH, then i won't be there til later. what if i didn't show til 2 or so??
i have yours and jim's #'s.
i think this will work out. i'll let you know!!!
no skirts- pretty tough!!
i have driving pants, gloves, full face helmet (with a pink thong on it, so not sure if any guy wants to borrow it) so i'm good to go.
just for safety, it's smart to wear long sleeves.
i'll know more later.
k
edit to add: i've done the 1/4 lots of times- never an 1/8th. i'm sure there is a HUGE difference. also, i don't go thru the water at the box. drive around it. being an 1/8th, does it seem like it's really really short???
kinda scary sounding....
ps. i'll look for the guys with the teeth.

My daughter doesn't drive either. She's just watching and filming. She really likes it.
1/8 or 1/4 difference. I wouldn't know. I'm new to this.
2:00 will be fine. We'll save you a spot.
Full race suite? Geese, I only have jeans and a long sleeve T-shirt.
Oh yeah, bring a chair. If we get a good spot we can watch others race from where we park. There is also a snack stand.

Kristen,
You're right to go around the water with street tires. Not a good idea. The grooves will hold the water and not burn off during the burn out.Can easily make the traction worse.
Don't worry about the run distance being shorter.Just can't get up to a higher speed.Without a doubt there are a lot faster cars out there than the Cobras. You will most likely go thru the lights in 3rd gear.

Another thing,Most street tires get "greasey" when they get hot, unlike slicks.
"You don't want to get near the water. It will run in your tread, be thrown into your wheelwell, and drip on your tires and the track the whole run. This is very dangerous for the "Big Boys" running slicks behind you, and could get you removed from the track. Also, dont do your burnout in the water, as it tends to throw water all over everyone and everything within 50 yards of the starting line! The car in line behind you will be very annoyed. "

Fred,
Thanks so much for the help. It'll be my first (legal) drag race and I haven't figured out how to reduce wheel hop yet!

Can't go...
Stuck at the host hotel for the tournament, posting game results to the website. Been here since 6:00pm Friday; I left directly from the car auction to immerse myself in a morass of soccer.

Great pics, Kristen! .. I really might just go get a helmet so I can run the Z4, if for nothing else but practice with the launches. Need to try that launch on last yellow thing ...

hi, Sam. a few more pics! (had to load them in gallery, first)
this is Steve against Miles. Who 'won?'
yours truly. I ran my first run by myself. Had troubles today, letting go of my clutch.... memories of my first time at Tulsa!! Yuck!!!!
This run was against Jim. I got a pretty good RT, but sucked again as I still couldn't let go of my clutch. Dumb dumb dumb. (remember, I'm still blonde )
Ultimately, I think Jim beat me at the finish.
Couldn't pass up this sweet '65. He made some nice runs. I'll put some more pics in my gallery later.
Gotta get back to being 'a mom!' (Supervising a Biology project. )
later, guys!!!
It was a really really fun time.
Ps. Sam. You don't have to have a helmet- unless you're running in the 6's. (remember, 1/8th mile, not 1/4) I don't think any of us were getting close to that!
Just running the z4 would be a blast!! Can I give it a go????
I'll let Jim chime in with HIS saga. hehehehehehehe. Now where's that truck and trailer???
pss. I seemed to have trouble with the 'last yellow' launches, as well. Got a couple of redlights; not sure why as I didn't think I jumped. I think all my runs were in the mid to high 8's. yuck.
Should have been in the 7's easily.
good practice, tho'.

Fun Fun Fun
Had a blast. Have wondered how Annie would do at a drag track. She did great and I didn't break anything.
Heading east to Redline Raceway. Perfect day!
Kristen can't wait!
Kristen approaching the starting line.
Let's see, yellow still on, wheels turning and blurry, hey Kristen, what's that little red light mean?
Kristen lining up with Jim.
Kristen's got the reaction time down!
James Bond showed up in an Audi A6. Still not sure why he was there, but he ran over and over and got his money worth. I think he was on his cell phone.
Made my first pass and didn't break anything!
Kristen taking on Mr. Bond. He was turning off the seat heater. But that little red light keeps turning on, is that for early Christmas?
Just a blur. Steve has already left the frame. Exit stage left....
I ran a quicker time (this run) but Steve got me on the reaction time. Steve's mph 88.72, mine 88.79. Really close and fun to race a buddy.
Back from battle. When I got this aviator garb, at that moment, my wife knew right then, that I had officially lost it...
So Pink Thong Racing Team? Didn't know this was initiation. I'd love to show the secret handshake and describe the intitiation, but then I'd have to kill you. But one thing, pink thong - the footwear or the underwear?
I need a little confirmation before I get the Team outfit put together.
I have other photos in my gallery. Had such a good time. Thanks all for a great afternoon. Thanks to Steve's daughters for being surrogate photographers too! And I still got to catch the end of the Cowboy game.
This would be a good outing for the club.

hehehe. I am laughing all the way down the track!!! That durn redlight!!!!
I guess i was anxious to go.... Didn't I beat that Audi?? He was on the phone??? $hit!!!!
footwear or underwear??? wouldn't you like to know.....
btw. a little error.... those are pics of Steve with Jim at staging, not me... I have white pipes, no meatball on the hood. But the cars do look similar and we both have white helmets. no foul.
007. on his cell phone. sheesh. I thought I was looking good, too.
your aviator getup is terrific!!
that was a fun day, and Steve's 'girls' were quite the troupers!!
thanks for bringing them along, Steve, i bet they turn out quite a cool video.
more pics tomorrow.

Miles,
You better check the blue car photo's again. Kristen's Pepe only has stripes, I have the roundels. That was a BUNCH of fun. My daughter Sarah and her buddy Carol shot this video. It's so shaky in some places it actually looks artistic. I quickly shoved it into "movie maker" tonight, but you'll get the just of things. I only found one of Kristen's runs, and Jim in the far lane on one of mine.
As Kristen did point out, that red wagon was one of the fastest on the track. He pretty much kicked my arss at 115 mph. But I did my best run, 7.865 1/8 mile ET & 92.04 mph earlier in the day.
I love this drag racing, but I CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL SPRING when I take the car to TMS to learn how to race it the way it was meant to be.
Enjoy the video:

great great video, Steve! Sarah and Carol and Caroline (?) did a great job!! how fun!!
pretty impressive- already got it to music and edited. I don't know how to do that.
It was a lot of fun, and hopefully next time i'll just try not to worry about the water, burn it off a little, wait for the last yellow light (!!!) and remember to take my foot off the clutch.... hmmmm all at the same time!!! Then I can surely beat you guys....
Miles. I am assuming since you evidently have big enough cajones to wear that getup while running a strip in bubba land of east texas, you must need an "XL" of whatever it is our PT Racing Team is wearing....
As team owner, captain, and driver, I will pick up the appropriate footies or undies.... for the whole team!!!
oh, and btw. the dude that kept asking me if I had improved my RT??? He did seem to have most of his teeth!! And, I'm sure he was ready to deliver that 15# baby any day.....
Do they have decals at that strip??? i meant to go check out the snack bar thing. Forgot. I want to get a decal/bumper sticker for my trailer.
have a great day!
Kristen
