Default Info on Dallas

Bernie Knight suggested you guys might be able to help us with some info on Dallas.
We are travelling from Australia to Vancouver next month and passing through Dallas for a couple of days. We want to know which area would be best for accommodation as a central base. We are also wanting to know which tourist spots we should be making a point of seeing. We don't know much about Dallas other than the grassy knoll and the book depository.
If anyone can help please send a PM.
Thanks

Lyn & Terry Ridley

This is kind of a scattershooting, if you can be more specific about what kinds of things yall like to do, we can better fine tune some ideas.
We love to help our Aussie friends, mate.
And we get folks driving through from Australia to Vancouver all the time....

Miles,

True but the average baseball here is at least played in one the best parks in the U.S.
So we got that going for us.

EVLCOB,

As someone who grew up in Dallas and went to college in Dallas I would say that Dallas is sort of like Atlanta. A nice place to live with a ton of local hot spots, but nothing really stands out. If you are not with a local Dalllas native it will just become another big city. Never too cold in the winter and oh so hot in the summer.

As you referenced, it is famous for the JFK problem. But the book depository will take all of 60 minutes.

It does not have any great geographical attraction nor does it have any "have to see historical attactions". Just a little southern charm. It is basically a business center in the central USA. Mostly famous for its football team. It is a nice place to live and shop. But I would suspect that Melbourne has all that Big D has. Most of the charm of Texas is found in the smaller cities in the hill country or in South Texas, IMO.

You might consider Going to Ft. Worth, ~50 miles west and spending a night in the "Stockyards" for a Western atmosphere. I know it is highly comercial but it is fun.

If you wish to drive 100 miles due East to Dallas to my town, Tyler, Texas I will host you to a beer and steak and slow living.

David

All of these gentlemen have excellent points...
