Great News
I just left the Dean's and things are looking very good. The MRI has confirmed that the ligaments in John's neck are strong enough to aid the healing process. So there will be "no need" for surgery after all. John will be wearing a neck brace for a while but a full recovery is anticipated. The physical therapist came by and John had no problem in getting out of bed and walking around the hospital floor. He will be released today and will be healing at home. Please continue to pray for his progress and for Elaine to have the strentgh to keep him under control. He looks good.
Jim

Everyone,
I am at home now. Thank you for all the prayers that I have benefitted from, they are working. There are hundreds whose names I will never know that have been praying for me.
As posted earlier, I had been scheduled for neck surgery on Tuesday. The doctor who was assigned to me said I needed it or I could become a quadraplegic. Other than this he did not share any details or images, but instead was arrogant and blunt. A friend recommended another doctor who happened to be on staff. He did not think surgery, and the associated risk, was the best option. The surgery would have fused vertabrae with screws and plates.
In any case I know how lucky I am. I am thankful that the US Marine Sargeant riding with me was almost unscathed. He went on a 200 mile motorcycle ride the next day. Those Marines are tough. He came to visit me for several hours in the hospital, and made a special point to tell me he would ride with me again any day.
Thank you to all who helped at the scene. For all of you who visited me, I appreciated seeing you......and there were many.
I have a ways to go still, so please continue to keep me (and Elaine, since she has to put up with me) in your prayers. In the near future, all my energy will be spent on recovery.

Outstanding News John
I glad you are home, but probably not as glad as you are . I have 4 fusion cages in my spine and believe me when I say you dont want that. Take it slow and do not skip any PT. You will be back in no time at all.
Take care and let me know if I can do anything to help.
John

Great news. Sounds kinda like the first doctor I had for my 2nd ankle surgery. Very arrogant as well. In my case I did need the surgery, but I did not trust him, so I got the 2nd opinion. I let her know up front that she was a 2nd opinion and after she showed me the X-ray she gave me 3 business cards of other experts to go see if I wanted another opinion. That is a good doctor in my opinion.

John,
How long do you figure you'll be just laying around being waited on before you start getting your ERA going again ?

I hated to even ask, for fear of appearing insensitive, but what kind of condition is the ERA in now?

Went to the Dr. today. He says things are progressing well with my neck. I got a bit longer leash on what I can do, but still need to wear a neck brace until mid-August at least. This means I can't drive until then. So far things are working out as best as can be expected. Thanks again for all the prayers.
John
