Austin 2009 Spring Meet Recap
Many Thanks & Kudos to All who attended and contributed to the great success of the Austin Spring Meet.
The OPERATION COMFORT fund raising efforts and participation by all who attended far exceeded all expectations. Well over $ 7,000.00 was raised and donated to the soldiers of Operation Comfort..........without whom we would not be able to gather and enjoy our Cobra passions as we do!!!!!!
Everyone is to be commended for all their efforts and contributions!!!!!!!!!
Vehicle totals for this year's event topped out at 106 cobras........with several other Ford Mustang Shelby's and GT's in attendance.
Currently we are anticipating a discussion from the hotel and an evaluation as to our acceptance by them at this site...................feelings are that everyone is happy and they will be glad to have us back.
From my standpoint the hotel was 'exceptional' in every aspect of the services that they provided to our group.
Thanks again to all...........WHAT A GREAT EVENT!!!!
I have enjoyed serving as TCC President for 2008 and my congratulations go out to our 2009 President - Gregg Herdlitchka.

Dee:
What kind of a price per registration would the hotel charge us for meal catering in tail-gate form, or inside if the weather doesn't cooperate? Could we get a better room rate if the hotel handled the evening foodservice? I have had some discussion with some of the attendees regarding this subject and figured the meal cost could be built into the advance registration fee...example: Thur. Fri. Sat. $50 per head; Fri. Sat. $35; Sat. only $20. Adult beverages could remain, BYOB or the hotel could set up a cash bar and make a contribution to Operation Comfort, as a suggestion.
This would eliminate poor estimation of group size by the various volunteers, save several people a lot of work, and probably result in a more pleasing overall dining experience, and maybe a more profitable venture for the hotel resulting in lower room rates for all.
Has the Austin planning group ever explored this approach? Your thoughts?

Dee...GREAT job as always, by you and your very special wife! On behalf of all of us, I think the event came off as a roaring success primarily due to your encouragement and efforts over the past year...you are to be thanked and congratulated!

Dee,
This was my first meet and I had a ball. You and Jacque did a wonderful job. I surely will there from now on if God's willing.
The hotel choice was perfect from my perspective. I hope they will want us back. I will leave it to the more experienced in our group, but I can't find much I would change. Of all the events, I feel we stretched Mamacitas to the limit. I believe some were nearly finished eating by the time the last of the group made it into the restaurant. Just an observation. I regret the Oasis trip was affected by the weather...that would have been a memorable trip and they can handle a group like ours with one hand tied behind their back.
Anyway, you guys did a great job and I am happy to have been a part. Lets shoot for 130 cars next year.

Dee and the crew!
Thanks! It was wonderfull! I know you put so much effort into the meet. The location can't be beat!! I second the motion for a different meal plan! I know that the Austin group has to share the same cost as the other groups and seeing we have 30+ members and ya'll only maybe half that it can become a large expense for ya'll. How about Greg and the new team try exploring other options. The one above is good but also look at cruises to restraunts. Pot Luck!!! These work well! How about a suggestion spot on the Texas Club Cobra website?
Again THANKYOU and Jacque. Now set back and enjoy the next one with alittle less pressure!!!

I wanted to personally thank y'all (and sorry, but never got the chance to until now) for carrying out the whole Operation Comfort project. I was able to speak with one of the young soldiers last Friday at the hangar and was impressed by his {new} outlook on life...living and loving life as opposed to becoming bitter because of the physical challenges he now faces.
As a mother of a soon-to-be-21-year-old soldier, currently stationed at Fort Bragg, I was genuinely touched and encouraged at the same time by this young man who was not letting the fact that he had lost both of his legs get in the way of enjoying the small things in life. He was having such a great time that day and when I asked him what he thought about all of this-- the cars, the cruise, etc., he replied, "this is SO cool!"
So, again thanks everyone for doing something for such a worthy cause, and honoring those who have served our country. God bless all of you!
