Woodrow Wilson Parade
Posting this for a fellow SCAT member.
I have been asked by the Woodrow Wilson High School - Reunion Parade Committee to provide a few Shelby, Cobra or Mustang convertibles to carry a few dignitaries. Carroll Shelby will be the Grand Marshall for this parade and may possibly have his own ride? I will be participating in this parade with my little Mustang Convertible and like the rest of you would jump at the chance to carry Mr. Shelby, but that may not be possible? However, since he is the Grand Marshall this year, I hope we can round up enough cars to show our support for all that he has done for the hobby, our club and many of our club members.
Right now, the only information we have is the date, time and location of the parade. The date is Saturday, April 25, 2009, we line up no later than 9am, the parade starts at 10am and we are supposed to meet near the corner of Gaston Ave. and Abrams Rd. in the Lakewood area of Old East Dallas. As I get more information, I will let everyone know.
Do you know of anyone else that may have Shelby, Cobra or Mustang convertible that would be willing to participate. From what I've been told, you could be carrying a high profile graduate of Woodrow Wilson, a few of which are listed below.
Lawrence Write - Pulitzer Prize Winner
Davey O'Brien - Heisman Trophy Winner
Tim Brown - Heisman Trophy Winner
Carroll Shelby
Jack Evans - Former Mayor of Dallas
Dusty Hill - ZZ Top
Steve Miller - Steve Miller Band
plus many more....
Thank you for your time and please let me know if you can help.
Jerry Gray

Anyone going?
Is anyone planning to attend/be in the parade? I would like to go and it would be nice to hang out with someone I know.

This was a memorable event...
Parkerpower, Damdfw, Hey,littlecobra, and myself were there.
We enjoyed the better part of the morning with the many proud and famous graduates of Woodrow Wilson High School.
Richard paraded Dallas Councilman Sheffie Kadane, and I drove Vietnam Special Forces Vet and longtime Dallas Teacher/Coach Larry Karl.
We met Hey, littlecobra along the parade route and caught up for more photos and autographs with Mr. Shelby.
Here is the set up for you David; go ahead and post your to be famous picture.
Thanks, Jerry Gray and Gary Morris for getting us involved.
Read about and see the scene at the following links to official news outlets...

John,
Which picture would that be.....
You in Katrina with Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown behind you? (I think he was a little envious of Larry Karl. He was riding only in a Jag)
Or....
Me hanging out with Carroll Shelby.

but i have the best photos, 'cuz i have the 500!
don't know how to post photos as an attachment.
great time and on and on it went with a post-parade, pre-BBQ party at a friends house, then on to Eddie Deen's where i got to see Bobby jammin' away..... with the 'knuckleheads'!!!
left ED's at 1 am!
did it 'all over again' on Sunday, with kids from the 70's at my 'growing up' church. I had a lot of fun reminiscing this weekend.
Glad David, John and Richard hung around awhile, too.
Ran into Don Arnold at the parade stuff.
Got a nice photo of the UT dude, Kindle.
Woodrow is about as 'old school' traditional as it gets!
K
(you know it's gotta be good if you can get Shelby to drag a$$ into big D for the event, at the 75th and 80th)
If you grew up in Dallas during the 60's you would HAVE to know Mr. Peppermint! Guess where he graduated????
ya'll have a great day! K
