Default Are you a good neighbor or NOT!!!

Another thread had me thinking! How many of you are good neighbors? Do you do like Tony here in Houston who works for Shell Oil and drives his car to work 150+ days a year and push your car down to the street from the garage and then starts it up? Or do you just fire that baby up, let it warm up, and blip the throttle a couple of times to wake up old Mr Jones next door?
I am in between. I crank mine up in the garage, hit the opener, and idle quickly out the driveway after seeing how well I can time it and not hit the windshield with the door. No comments yet from my neighbors.

I also try to keep the early AM start-ups to a minimum. I usually start my car in the garage and once the oil pressure is up, I'm gone. If I'm going to breakfast on a Saturday, I usually have to leave between 7:00 am and 7:30 am...way too early to sit there and warm it up.

No complaints so far. I asked a neighbor one day, and he just smiled and said that he definitely knows when I'm leaving, but it was no big deal since it only lasts a minute.

I don't seem to have that problem.

I live out in the country so I can start mine up in the garage or out of the garage any time day or night.

Might make a few deer scatter, but thats okay.

Nothing like living out in the country.

To the rear of my house, where my garage faces, lives a politician/lawyer. Not too friendly either. I try not to start it very early in the morning and if I do I idle away quickly.

No complaints but mean looks whether the car is running, or I am just working on it.

Wow, I can't start mine up in the garage as it blows raw fuel and crap all over the walls, then it leaves the garage stinking for days. I generally roll it out into the driveway and then start it up. Houses are pretty far apart, so neighbors don't mind too much. I try to idle out of neighborhood, but then light it up on the main road. Neighbors can certainly hear that part!

Hmmmmmmm...I'm still in go-kart stage...have not been diving the go-kart in weeks as I've been completing wiring and alum. panels. I do start the car up 2-3 times a week for about 3 minutes... only revived it once during the warm up. But I have been noticing a police curse driving by the garage. In fact last night there was one across the street...park for about 10 minutes..I gave the "WASUP" look and he drove off.

My neighbor has a barking dog every morning, even on Sunday, at 5:30 AM she lets is out in the back yard. My master bedroom window is right next to her fence, you do the math. One Sunday morning after being up all night watching a Charlie Chan festival just for meanness I kicked the sucker off at 4:30 AM. I did get a telephone call you can guess the response.

I am lucky - my neighbors love the car, I have taken some of them for a ride.
If I do have an early departure I just go easy on it until well out of the area,
so no problems. There are a couple of bikes in the area that make more
noise than I ever do so I'm not worried.

Default I am a nice neighbor except in this instance...

Bwana Snake's neighbor has a barking dog early, I got a rock band late.
I enjoy early morning breakfast on the weekends during the summer.
I drive the cobra as frequently as possible.

I am NOT a good neighbor. I have a big cam and custom exhaust on my big block. It's real loud - even for Cobras. I start it in the garage (echoy in there too) and let her idle a bit in the driveway to get that oil moving around that large engine. Then I pull away slowly. You can hear ever stroke of the cylinders clearly and loudly. I don't mind the early morning drive or pulling in at midnight.

My daily driver is a Yukon with custom dual exhaust - noisy too. In fact, when I was taking my daughters to school every morning, the across the street neighbor said they didn't need to use an alarm clock anymore - because my truck woke them up (on time) every morning.

So, NO I'm not a good neighbor. I'm a GREAT neighbor since I don't call the police on their constantly barking (and crapping in my yard) dogs or call City Hall on their over gown yard ( I mean weeds).

Plus, isn't a big block firing up universal music known the world over?

One of my newer neighbors is a Veteran, he is used to the car now, but when he first moved in the rumble brought back some bad memories for him. Even though he says it's OK, I still try to keep it down until I'm away from the house.

Another "newer neighbor" has a freakin' dog that seems to never stop barking. Several neighbors have mentioned it, I think it may result in a police complaint at some point. Won't be me, but it sure is annoying!

You guys are great!!! I have a neighbor down the street that has about as many bikes as I do cars. Every morning he winds it out to the stop sign at my corner and I hear him coming most of the time at 6 a.m.. He is on his way to work, I guess' Not on weekends!! So some sat or sun mornings I cruise by his house and give him alittle wakeup call also. And if thats not enough pipes it also sets off his neighbors car alarm. Boy, I love these cars!!!! hahahah

I try to be a good neighbor...

not being a morning person, I rarely fire up the beast before 9 AM & try not to be out after 10 PM. Only once or twice a year do I fire it up early for a car show or a breakfast run.

... not that it's a big deal... my neighbors love it... even though it rattles their windows & sets off their car alarm while warming up in the driveway.

One neighbor was working on/in his boat (next door) while I was warming it up... he thought there was an earthquake...

Sounds like a lot of payback for barking dogs going on.

My new neighbors have two Chihuahuas...my neighbor calls them Mexican doorbells...I call them a pain in the axx. What's the deal? Seems like an invasion of small barking dogs!

I leave every Saturday morning about 6:30 for our local hang-out with the Early Rodders...I would never have guessed that "Early" was early MORNING!. But I start the car up, then after just a few seconds drive UP my short driveway, then AQAP motor down the street.

The woman across the street is a realtor, and she completely FREAKED out when we were in the final go-kart stages of setting the brake bias. I was doing 20-0 runs one afternoon (kids in school and no one around) and she came running out screaming for me to stop, for fear I would leave black marks on the street and devalue our homes. She was very ugly and warned me that all the neighbors would soon be hating me for :that thing." Her hubby came home later so I caught him in the driveway to apologize. He quickly told me he would tell her to keep her mouth shut and hide in the closet if it bothered her, and how dare she confront me about my COBRA (hallowed, angels-singing tone used here.)

Since getting the body on all my neighbors drool over it and have come over to see it or asked for rides. In return I have tried to be very quiet when coming in after 10PM or leaving before 8AM, and I try and not sit around revving it up for attention.

I try to be a good neighbor, but it's not easy with such a loud car.

I start the car in the garage and quickly move it out, but always keep the revs low (short shifting) whenever I'm in a residential neighborhood. But the houses near mine are pretty close together so I don't have much choice. My wife and daughters usually jump whenever I start the car in the garage, which is attached to the house. Sorry girls.

Actual quotes from my neighbours:
  • "I thought it was a thunderstorm."
  • "I thought it was an earthquake."
  • "Your car made the floors of my house shake."

Once a year I will give rides to all neighbors who dare. Some like the run over Papago Buttes (no fly zone for police) or just lay a 40 foot strip of rubber on the street. Usually the wifes won't go after i do some burn outs. Never a complaint except for isn't it time for rides again from the kids, which i do anyway. Still try to keep quiet but without a choke and in winter can take a little bit of throttle to keep running.
