Bill,

As you know I am in, working a possible 302 as well as a couple other items. This will in fact be a great start to a annuall event if all goes well!

Bwansa - you have ceramic coated side pipes, and Steering wheel....? That would be great, would save a bit on the Kit if we can confirm.....

TJ,

If you are asking me to confirm I will donate.

For refrence, Larry (Tugboat) Boatner has a 351W sitting in his garage, could be a possibility. We should canvas the LoneStar site for other possible donations of extra parts.

Default It's official

It's official and we're going W.O.T. Operation Comfort organizers are spreading the word to sponsors and donors that have supported them in the past "We're Building a Cobra Replica"

Brian at Lonestar Classics is on board, you can read all about it here in his posts. http://www.lonestarclassics.com/__LS...?p=13556#13556

CASH – Times are tough, and funding is scarce so any donation is needed and welcomed. Operation Comfort is a 501(c)(3) charity and you'll get a receipt for your contribution. Contributions should be made through the OC website www.operationcomfort.org/ and specify the contribution for "Automotivation Cobra Build". Follow up with an email direct to Janis (OC representative) at jroz814@yahoo.com identifying your contribution to make sure it gets credited to this effort.

PARTS – If you have any parts you would like to donate, get them to Brian at Lone Star (call first to make arrangements) Brian will remove/credit them from the KIT. In case of any duplicates Brian will work on getting value from them to sponsor the kit. As well if you are in Houston Tony Jacobs (Tony.Jacobs@shell.com) or Bill Swendsen (PM me) will collect and get them to OC (and let Brian @ LSC know) as well, just get in touch with Tony or Bill.

Special thanks have to go out to Tony and Kelly for coming up with this great idea and all their efforts to get LSC on board, Kudos brothers. Also to the Houston, Austin & Dallas Cobra Club family, there's none better out there. And lastly, to the real hero's, the soldiers and their families for the sacrifices they've made so we can live free, our hearts and prayers go out to them, God Bless them all.

Now, get on board, make those donations, get us your extra parts, sign up to join us on Saturday, December 12 for a day you'll never forget, you'll be touched by the stories for life.

I have a 390 that has most of the compoents to complete. I think I needed a oil pan and not much else. The machine work hasn't started, but I have all the pistons and connectors. The heads are aluminum from edelbrok. Let me know if they can do the engine work. Otherwise they can have it to rebuild.

Greg: The motor and parts are an awesome contribution, thanks very much.

The LSC kit has been ordered and is expected in advance of our trip to San Antonio. Keep the contributions flowing in, every dollar is need. Spread the word to family and friends.

Awesome turn out for this build. Wow!

I now count FOUR engine donations with a fifth one on the fence. Does someone have the "master list" to assure quality, prevent possible confusion, and avoid hurt feelings???

Just a thought: Can we store the extra high-quality "donations" for 12 months until the possible FFR build happens?

Default Donations

OC has ample room to store motors, cars, parts etc. Three very large building dedicated to "Automotivation". They can work on the LSC, motors and other projects at the same time. I think as long as a detailed list of parts accompanies the donations they'll store them and put them to good use, either on this build or the next. This is really gaining steam and excitement. It's all the buzz at BAMC. Keep spreading the word, TV, Radio, magazines, newspapers etc. More publicity is needed as well as the most important, $$$$. Times are tough right now and no donation is too small. My daughters school is having a fund raising event for the soldiers.

Again, thanks in advance for everyones help with this. God Bless.

Default Operation Comfort Cobra Build #1 update

Cobra Community – Operation Comfort Cobra Build #1 update

We have committed and have started ordering key components – it is on!

Donations of parts have started off well. We want all to realize we are making some choices, however all donated parts are of immense value to the effort, even if a duplicate, so great appreciation to all.

Quick status of a few specific items

Motor - We in fact have the great “problem” of selecting a motor. We have had multiple partial/nearly complete motors donated, and have settled on a 351 to design around for multiple reasons. To be clear – the additional motors will be supplied to OC for other projects, and or possible use on Cobra Build #2.

Transmission – Working a current T5 donation, any additional donations please let us know ASAP so we can optimize our plan

Rolling stock – Rims, we have a donate set, but looking for Tires, again multiples have value to OC so don’t hold back.

Misc kit parts – Collecting many kit components, and multiples are valued and value donated. More definitely welcome!

Thank you all for your support for this worthy cause!

Brian:
Thanks very much for the update. What size tires are we looking for? We have some folks asking what they can add to the project in addition to funding.

I know Tony and Kelly here in Houston have told you but let me add my thanks for your support. I spoke with Janis last night and the guys are really excited about this. God bless you.

PS: Anyone headed to the Texans v 49ers this weekend will see some of the soldiers from BAMC. They have been invited to opening ceremonies at the game by the USO.

Default Tires

Take the tires off the list. Tony and I are donating the tires. I'm going on Tire Rack this weekend, ordering them and having them drop shipped direct to LSC.

Default Tires

Sounds great! Thank you.

Just learned that the front wheels were narrowed slightly from stock so I have revised the front tire sizes:

245/45/17.

Default Lambos and Lunch

It was an awesome day last Friday and the Houston Cobra Club set out on invitation to tour Lamborghini of Houston and lunch afterwards. We got the grand tour and got to meet ex Oilers QB Dan Pastorini. We gave them our best Operation Comfort sales pitch and they're in for Dec 12th cruising to San Antonio with us.

Thanks to everyone that has donated either online or via mail, this is going to be a great event. We now have 33 Cobras and 73 people going. Keep the dontations coming in.

Default Press Release

Bill,

Think we can get Kit Car Builder to show up and provide a little press. If not how about sending a press release to the San Antonio Media outlets?

Just a thought.

Default God Bless the TCC

This is what makes the Texas Cobra Club a very special Club. I have never been associated with a finer group of men and women in all my years of car club membership. As a veteran and an active duty member of the military I appreciate all you have done for my wounded brothers and sisters in arms. I cannot wait until the 12th to shake al of your hands and say thank you. You make me proud to be an American and God Bless all of you for supporting this wonderful cause.

We're less than one month out, here's an update and recap of planning:
When: Saturday, December 12, 2009 www.operationcomfort.org
Where: Lonesome Dove Land & Cattle Co. Ranch; 22190 Mathis Rd.; San Antonio, TX 78264
Objective: Pay our respects to the wounded soldiers, raise money and donate a replica 1965 Shelby AC Cobra by Lone Star Classics

Plans are as follows:
>Rally point #1: Bass Pro Shops, Katy Mills Mall 0600-0630. There are restaurants and gas stations on site. We need to depart for San Antonio no later than 0700. **MAKE SURE** your tank is full when we leave this rally point.

>Rally point #2: Guest House Int'l; 13800 IH-37 S; Elmendorf, TX 78112; (210) 633-1833 (For those interested in staying the night, there is a block of rooms under Operation Comfort.) http://www.sanantonioguesthouse.com/ *Ample trailer parking and secure lot*
>Depart Rally point 2 no later than 1100. The ranch is <5 miles away. **If we could contact the local PD/Sheriff/Constable for this area, it would be nice to have a police escort in**
>Meet and greet the OC staff, soldiers, their families etc.
Rides: Last year we gave rides to many of the soldiers, staff and family members. This is voluntary.
>Lunch provided by OC
>Unload trucks, trailers, Santa will be there (Any Volunteers this year). We have the Santa outfit.
>Please let us know if you're spending the night. Our plans are to go into town (The Riverwalk area) and have dinner together as a group.

Action items:
>List of all driving their Cobras, Hot Rods, Classics, MC's to the event.
>Coordinate collection of donated items/wish list items. We need volunteers driving trucks/trailers to haul these items.
>Confirm and coordinate timing with LSC
>Confirm Kit Car Builder will be there
>Empty car hauler trailers. In the event of mechanical issues, we need minimum 1 max ??? as many as possible empty trailers as rescue vehicles.
>Tools, spare tires, etc, etc in the event of mechanical issues.
>Need updated head count for lunch @ Lonesome Dove
>Please check the attached excel sheet. Tab 1 is list of people and cars/MC's coming. If your name isn't on the list please let us know. Tab 2 is the OC wish list. Please update it or let me know and I'll update it if you have something you'd like to donate or add to the list.
>OC is also looking for an 80 gallon air compressor. 230v, 11 hp
>The trailer has been donated.
>Cookies, baked goods, gift cards always go over well.
>Photography is encouraged. Need to have access to site such as PhotoBucket to download all pictures and share.
>Individual recap of events. Share your thoughts, feelings etc after the event is over with others. This is a great human interest event and the soldiers love to hear there's someone that cares about them.

Am I missing something? Did I forget somebody?
There's a possibility of another Car Show/Take a ride event on Sunday, Dec
6th we'll keep everyone posted on this.

Thanks,
Bill
