Aluminum or Stainless Steel Knock-off's

For street use, is there any preference between aluminum and stainless steel knock-off's? Aluminum knock-off's reduce unsprung weight, stainless steel doesn't have the same amount of thermal expansion, etc. I can see advantages to both.

Any safety issues with aluminum?
