Default Info on Avon tires

I need to start looking for some 15 inch tires for my ERA shortly. I've been reading about Avon tires but when I've tried to search for them I've come up short on anything that looks appropriate for a Cobra in 15 inch diameter. Here is a site typical of the ones I've looked at.

http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/car/cr85

Does Avon make a suitable street use tire in 15" diameter that fits these cars? If so, can you provide a link on them?

Thanks

Dan,

Check out Roger Kraus Racing. Look under racing tires.

Avon CR6 ZZ (DOT) Tyres

I think there's a distributor on the East Coast, but I don't recall the name.

Default Rumor

To the effect that Micky Thompson's are very good in terms of "SMOOTH"... got that from a retailer that did some research (calling around) with distributors for me on what was suitable/available in 15" for a Cobra...

Micky Thompson tires are probably next on my list. It appears tires in the size I need are made by the following that I have found so far. Anyone care to rate them in order of preference?

Mickey Thompson
Cooper
Kumho
BF Goodrich
Firestone

I'm not aware that Kumho's are available in 15's. If they are, then they would be a strong 2nd choice.

ouch 400.00 a tire for avon's.......i'm running the mickey thompsons, around 200.00 a tire i can't imagine they would be twice as good. i have 275-50-15's on the rear now....they grip well, now when i get caught in the rain, they suck, but prolly so will the avon's

Somewhere I got the impression that Avon makes the Mickey Thompsons under contract. Does anyone know if that's true?

Cooper Tire who owns Avon produces the MT "ST" tires. They have the same tread pattern as the "Cooper Cobra" tires and are thought to be the same save for sidewall markings. Compare the prices.......

Did you find out if the Cooper tires are similar to the Avon cr6zz?

The only similarity is they are both made with rubber and both owned by the same company. The Cooper "Cobra" tires and the Mickey Thompsons are in no way the same or equal to the Avon CRZ66 tires.

I've heard great things about the Avons. I have Goodyear Billboards at the moment, which I like and love the look of, but I'll probably go for the Avons when I next replace them.

I was in the same boat and have not regretted the switch to Avons.
