Default 295/50R-15 and 245/60R-15 tire options

I currently have Goodyear billboards and am not thrilled with their street manners. I plan to replace them with street radials in 295/50R-15 and 245/60R-15.

There are very limited choices in those sizes. It looks like Cooper, Mickey Thompson ST and a few off brands like Hancock. I assume BFG does not currently manufacture 295/50R-15 tires-none of the tire stores show them in stock.

Anyone have suggestions of other available tires in the above sizes or feedback in the brands noted above.

John

Have you considered Avons? They are available in the sizes you request.

I also am looking to replace my BF Goodriches. I found that Hoosier makes "Quick Time" DOT tires in P245/60D-15 and P295/50D-15 along with alot of other sizes. They have a super-soft compound combined with Hoosier's Super Chainlink tread pattern. The Summit ad says They are street legal, but then says "designed for competition use only". Anyone have any experience with these?

My next set will be Mickey Thompson's Sportsman S/R tires. 26x10.00R15LT front and 26x12.00R15LT rear. H rated 130mph. The choices for 15" performance tires are getting smaller and smaller.

Another possible "Street tire" option, Hankook Ventus H101:

We just ordered a set of these. I will give a review next week when they are mounted.

Avon CR6ZZ and forget anything else if you want very good cornering grip and good road manners. Probably the best you can get bar slicks

Firestone Firehawk INDY 500's are a good street tire. I use them and am quite happy with them.

I cant say enough fantastic things about the handling of my car since I put the avons on. They are so sticky I have several rock chips on my rear fenders form them picking up more debris but the handling is 1000% better. I had the Hankook Ventus on another vehicle. They handle wel lbut wore out faster than I expeccted. That probably wont matter on a cobra but for a daily driver they didnt last long.

I have been using the Avons since April or so. I run them about 500 miles per week. Functionally they are fabulous. Tire wear has not been an issue. I would be keen to hear a comparison with the MT SR tires since they are so much less and because I drive far more miles than most. But it will need to be a credible comparison. Otherwise I am sticking with the Avons. The Avons are understated overachievers. I cannot suggest a single way to improve them.

Default Avons all the way!

I have had my Avon’s since February of this year and they are outstanding in all aspects. Traction and cornering is execptional with very little tire wear. I truly expected a high rate of tire wear from these ‘soft’ compound tires but I am impressed with their fit, form and function. Best of all they are a street legal radial design!

Default I have Firestone 500's

Just got them, and they seem great for the price. That is why I went with them instead of the Avons. If you can afford the Avons....

B.T.W. I think the 275/60 on the rear look much better than the 295/50. Narrower, but fill the hole better.

Cooper Tires has a decent street tire in 245x60-15 and 295x50-15... I think they are called Cooper Cobra. Might be worth a look.

I have logged over 16,000 miles on Avons. I am on set # 3. Just over 7000 miles per set. I have forgotten what my car was like before Avons and I don't want to remember.
