Searching Goodyear Eagle GT II tire information

Hi all

I was reading the Goodyear big letter treads with high interest.
Now I got curios to check about the availability on the tires I’ve mounted on my car and it seems to me, that they are no longer manufactured.

Does any one of you have some details about the following Goodyear’s?
Goodyear Eagle GT II P235/60R15
Goodyear Eagle GT II P275/60R15

As I need this size and the DOT on them (Without DOT no insurance coverage and risk to have the driver license retired) the Roger Krause tires are no option.

The Avon tires from Roger are an option. And for a DOT rated tire in 15 inch, they are probably the best option. Spendy, but worth it.

The Goodyear GTII's are junk in my opinion. Hard and they give little if any warning when they are about to break loose in a corner. Dangerous in my opinion.

I'll be replacing all four tires on my SPF Cobra in the next couple weeks. The Eagle GT IIs on there now look the part, but are basically crap IMO.

I had posted a thread about 15-inch tires options which you might want to read.

In the end I've decided to go with the Cooper Cobras, which are basically the same as the M/T Sportsman S/Ts.

A lot of the responders to my thread prefer the Avons, but distribution and costs are much worse in Canada than in the U.S. so it would be a hassle and very expensive for me to go that route.

Avons are excellent for 4-5 years of street driving or a half dozen race heat cycles, not both, after that they turn to hard plastic...................trust me I know.
I loved 'em, waited too long to replace 'em.

So ship them to my place, drive down for installation and smile at the border when you return.............

I may have found some depending on two questions. 1 do they have to be raised white letter? 2. Do they need to be shipped to Switzerland? Not sure if this will help but check here

Yes I have a set on 17" wheels for a CSX4k or original cobra. I was actually looking to get rid of them. They (both Wheels and tires) were used for only 2 open track sessions and a parade lap last year at VIR. They are currently bagged and in my basement. Excellent dry traction and very good wet. 2nd session was in the wet.

@ mpanten: Many thanks for the link. Yes I would be interested on the ****e letter sidewall version. I have a possibility to ship stuff with a friend from New Jersey therefore the shipment would only be within the US.

Based on the rating/ feedback of the Goodyears (which is trough) and the link I found, I’m now struggling.

I found yesterday an interesting link which would be an option as well.
Use M/T Sportsman S/T tires and paint the Goodyear big letters on it.

I had them, still have them on the front. They are really not a bad tire. They are not the best by any means but are better than the BFG's. Its hard to say how you will like them because everyones car seems to react differently to the same tire.

Do they stick as well as my drag radials? no but I also had a BFG's tko's and I liked the goodyears better. If you are cruising on the street with some spirited driving they should be fine. If you are serious about performance and and really push it I would do something better. I certainly wouldnt spend months looking for them and pay a premium to have them sent to you. By the time you do that you could be into the Avon price range.

This is a fact. They will last 500000 (OK, 50K) miles but can't grip the road. When I first saw them on my car the thought of a M+S tire made me chuckle. I never got around to changing them to Billboards. The biggest problem is they are so hard and thus really suck at cold temps and on cold pavement.

For the GT I got Bridgestone RE050A (Scuderia). If you can find them in the right size they are a remarkable improvement. Sticky enough that they stay on the ground and also a lot better in colder temps.

The roadster wants 235/60x15 fronts and 295/50x15 rears
A real nice tire is the Mickey Thompson S/T tires which boast:
- The right size
- Good availability
- Decent traction
- Roll smooth, no vibration
- Black or reverse to get raised white letters
