Avon
Hi ViperGuy,
I tried it....... I have AVON 245/295 x 15's on my Daytona, great tire.
I used the template from a company in Canada, great template etc...
Then used the correct rubber tire wall paint and it didn't work.. I used a brush
and it ran under the template. I think if you get the paint in a spray can it would work better. You really need to roughen up the sidewall and get all the silicon/sheen off.
I love the Goodyear Billboard tires, but they are not the best on the road/track and they are illegal in Australia

Searching these forums and the internet people seem to be getting the best results with "fabric pencils".

After running 325 MT drag radials, I decided to bite the bullet and try the Avons. Great tire but VERY expensive. Avons run upwards of $1700 minus shipping and mounting/balancing versus the billboards cost of $1100. The Avons wear very quickly when "used". Mine are half worn out at 3000 miles. Back to the drag radials for me.

Went ahead and just orderd the Billboards
Well guys I went the other route and just ordered Goodyears.
I'll try them out for a couple weeks and give you guys my opinion.
I bought them from Roger Kraus. "Tom" on the phone was a very nice guy.

Congrats. Just be patient and if you find them wearing on you, go park the car in a nice setting, step back about a few feet and take a look. Resells me every time (not to mention I love how they handle.).

Were you running MT Drag radials all around? Did you ever encounter any wet roads? Just curious. They look great and probably stick like glue, but I can only imagine the excitment of driving on a Northern California mountain road on a foggy/wet morning.

I own both Billboards and Avons. Goodyear is stenciled on both sets. The tire shape of the Billboards bulge the sides better and fill the wheel well better. The Avons ride 10 times better and hook up better. I use the Billboards to show the car when every bit counts, the Avons to race and ride comfortably. So many people comment about how nice it is to see the Billboards even when it's the "Goodyear" lettered Avons. Few notice the counterfeits that ride and handle better.
Be sure not to make your stencil too perfect. Original Billboards had overspray and missed spots.

@ CSX 4909
Please provide some detail pictures to help all of us to have a close look and to understand how you've done the painting.
MANY THANKS!

Has any one tried in the mean time to paint the Goodyear letters on the Avons?

Why wouldn't you want to use the "AVON" stencil for Avon tires?
I might switch to Avons away from the Billboards for my next tires and would just use the AVON stencil to achieve the billboard effect.
