Safety Wire guage

What guage would you say works best for the safety wire? I need to replace mine-Malinco has a large selection. Thx

You didn't mention the application. For my knock-offs, I've used .041" stainless for 18 years. I can't say it's the "best" because I have no statistics.

Sorry, yes to connect to the spinner.

I just mic'd what was on mine and is approx .025 but its been twisted a lot so not really sure-I guess it doesn't really matter so long as its supple enough not to break.

Use .030 ga mig wire. Sells for about $12 a pound. Will send you a few feet if you need some. Bill

I put wire insulation on the wire where it is wrapped around the wheel.

I use Aircraft Spruce .041
Pilot Supplies, Avionics, and Homebuilt Aircraft Parts from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Co.

I've thought about using wire insulation like you do (don't have the car quite yet) but was wondering if the wheels do indeed get scratched over time by the safety wire. From someone who just uses the wire alone, does it scratch?

Thanks,

Kevin

I use 0.032 wire and haven't noticed where it has scratched the wheels. I think the protectors are a great idea and look good. If you are not careful I think the wires could scratch the wheels.
