Glad to hear that you're satisfied with the M/T's. I ordered a set and just got them a couple of days ago. They look like a nice tire but right now there's not much urgency to get them on the car since I pulled the engine this week.

richpal1,
Are the Cobra Line Cooper tires different than the Cobra G/T's...I looked them up and the are only rated "T",your size has an "H" rating after it.Just wondering if I was looking at the right tire.I had to tell the Engineer that passed my car that I would be running an "H" rated tire and that is in his paperwork that he submitted to the MV.Now it will only be a problem if I go over 112 MPH(H are rated at 130) or if I have a accident and they see that I'm not running the proper tire stated in my engineering report...both pretty serious and insurance cancelling.
I also noticed that the M/T ST's are only rated "T" but the SR are "H" looks like the SR's are my only option other than Avons(not in my buget)

the rating is for "one hour continuous".

I don't think we can drive for one hour at 112 mph on the street.

but I feel better knowing my tires can do it.

Those are almost my exact words I said to him...but he said I looked like I had a heavy foot and that was that...end of arguement.
Besides he said that the regulation for rating the speed had changed from "one hour continuous" to only having to run the tire up to that speed for a short time,he had the length of time but I can't remember what it was ...way less than an hour...a minute or less...please correct me if I am wrong.I think that this is very important to know considering your life may depending you knowing what and how they rate the tire you have.

I might take the chance on the T's. I scare myself when I get above 80 in this thing...although I have had the occasional 100+ bursts...its so light I'm frightened it's going to take off...maybe time to get a pilots license..
Can I fit a fatter tire with a lower profile...it sits so high in the rear? Anyone know?
Again, it's a Classic Roadster, '92 version.

the price alone make them very appealing and if your insurance will except that tire rating I don't see a problem with them...you seem to know your and your cars limitations and are prepared to stay within them...I wouldn't have a problem using them if my engineering report hadn't specified that I need an H rated tire...again I'd ask your insurance company about tire ratings.

I bought 4 from jegs 26x8-15 and 28x10-15. Maybe 50 miles on them. I'll sell them for half price if someone wants to pick them up.
I liked them I just wanted wider tires.

I have been running the MT S/T's for about 2 years, sizes 255/60/15 and 275/60/15. They run true and stay in balance and I have had no problems with them in spite of about 20,000 miles of low and medium speed rallies. What I really like about them is the smooth breakaway. You can overpower them with throttle and drift them our as far as you like and still recover. These tires make you feel like your car just eats up curvy mountain roads. And when you go into a corner too fast, they give you a lot of warning and control as they start to slide (NEVER BACK OFF). They are also fine in wet weather, although I don't do too much of that.

The Toyo Proxy's I used to run were better braking tires and lasted a long time, not the best for corners. The Yokohama S/T's lasted a long time and were pretty good too but you can't get them anymore. Hoosier's autocross tires gave tremendous traction but would jerk the steering when you caught a road imperfection, especially at high speed. Goodrich TA's are lots of fun, if going sideways is your thing and you're a little crazy and you don't really need to stop anyway. I really miss the old Micky Thompson Comp bias ply tires. They gave great traction and performance and were cheap. However, they wore out so quickly you had to buy a new set every year.

So, the MT S/T's are a good choice. They are affordable tires (about $700 a set) and wear well if you can restrain the burnouts, doughnuts and drifts. I have not been able to lock in the right front to rear balance to maximize braking. But then that changes with the size of your passenger and the amount of fuel you are carrying, so I cannot really blame the tires. However, I would say that is their biggest drawback. I usually carry 2 or 3 cans of tire sealant but have not had to use any of them with the Micky's. The rears are about half gone and the fronts less than 1/4 after some pretty hard running so I can recommend these tires to guys who really drive their cars.

My next set will be MT's. The tread pattern and H speed rating are all pluses in this price range. The Goodyear GT's that were on my roller got to the wear bands ( on the rears ) very quick. I replaced them with Firestone Indy's and they have given me better wear and better traction. The 295x50-15 are getting close to the wear bands while the fronts are 40% worn............Not many chooses, as we all know. What I need is an inexpensive pin drive wheel in a 17-18 " that I can mount some sticky's for track days. Don't see any wheel manufacturers thinking that is a money maker idea !!

I just put MT S/R's on my Cobra, so far, so good. Mucho better traction than the Goodyear II's that were on it.

I think M/T tires are made by Cooper to M/T specs. Founded in US in 1913. I think Cooper tire was pretty active on stock exchange some time back and may be OE on some Asian Ford cars soon. I guess they bought the best.

Were they ever OE on US cars?

Cooper owns M/T as well as Avon Rubber but has now been "aquired" by an indian conglomerate.

Well, I finally got the car back on the road and have the new M/T Sportsman SR tires on. Only have about 80 miles on them but they are already light years ahead of the old Goodyear Eagle I's.
