wheel spacers

Has anybody use wheel spacers on the rear of there cobra? I am not sure if this is a good idea or not, I have heard you can use them and I have heard you cant. The rims that I want to get don't come in the right back space for what I need and I was wondering if I can use wheel spacers to change the back spacing of the rim so they would fit my cobra. Any help would be great thanks.

I have 5/8" spacers on the rear of my B&B. I'm running Compomotive 17 x 10, I don't recall the back spacing but they just didn't look right to me so I added the 5/8" to it and it looks great. The outside edge of the tire sits just under the lip and I think that looks much better. I have heard that spacers are not such a great deal as they say it changes the load on the axle bearings. All I can say as I've been ruing them for over 12k miles and have not had any problems.

I don't own a cobra yet so keep my comments in perspective but in the mustang world anything over a 1/4 spacer called for longer wheel studs and of higher strength (arp). Obviously make sure spacers are hub centric. H&R makes very good spacers.

I was looking for some spacers for a trailer I was building. I called several tire dealers and was told the are illegal and they won't even touch a car that has them. I ended up getting some off the internet and they were clearly marked "Not for highway use, off road use only". On a trailer, I suppose they're fine but I would never put them on a vehicle, especially on the drive wheels.

Not sure where I got them, but I have to run 2.5" spacers on my cobra R rear wheels, b/c the offset is so drastically different than my street wheels. they bolt to the hub's studs, but then they have their own set of studs too. the spacer is aluminum, hub centric. The place I got them uses them on rock crawler off road vehicles with no issues. I've done a dozen or so DEs or club events at several tracks with them and had no issues. Yes they look a little strange, but are necessary for my narrowed rear end. any thick spacers need to be bolted to the hub and have its own set of studs. Those type probably start out in the 1" range on thickness as it has to swallow the lugnuts.

I have the same problem as you did mat, I want to use the cobra r rims but I need like a 2.5" spacer for them to work on the rear.

It depends on whether you're using bolt on or pin drive wheels. Pin drive wheels lose engagement on the pins and the spinner nut so you are pretty limited to minor adjustment for tie rod clearance to 1/4" or less.
With bolt on wheels it is standard practice to adjust race car wheel offsets with long wheel studs and spacers. You must have good quality high tensile wheel studs and nuts and good parallel spacers.
